wook77: (Books and Movies: Resolution for 100)
I haven't done one of these in awhile so there's a bit of build-up here. Actually, there are 12 reviews in this one. However, as some of them were watched/read awhile back, some of the reviews are sketchy memories… I scored them all right away though so the scores accurately reflect my opinions at the time.

Remember – spoilers abound. Movie reviews probably contain random comments about hot guys, cool bombs or beautiful cars or some such. Book reviews probably contain over usage of the words "predictable", "annoying" and/or "tedious".

The following three books are a series and, thus, are reviewed together as a series as I basically read them back to back and the details have blurred.

Uglies - 9 out of 10

And I'm caught up! I've reviewed 16 movies and 22 books so far this year. Thus, I have 34 movies and 28 books to go for the year. I'm just a little bit ahead of schedule!

Resolution Reviews. Same disclaimers as every other one. As one of these books came out less than 2 weeks ago, I'll remind that there are spoilers in here. BIG TIME spoilers.

Without further ado - 3 books and 1 movie. This puts me over 25% completed for the year.

A Rec - Fading Evening Light - It's from The Departed (that's right, I think this just might possibly be the first Departed Fanfic on LJ let alone the first slash one). It's Billy Costigan/Bryce Dignam and OMG SO HOT. [livejournal.com profile] ficlette teased me with it all day and she has Dignam's voice down so well. I adore it so very very much. Obviously it contains spoilers for the movie but if you've seen the movie, you totally need to read this. Think of it as a deleted scene that Scorcese forgot to include. *grins*

A Comm - To encourage more Departed fic... [livejournal.com profile] ficlette and I have created [livejournal.com profile] departed_fic het, slash and femmeslash friendly. Go join and write loads and loads of Dignam, I mean, fic!

A Thanks - To whomever gifted me with the gift certificate to LJ - Thank you SO MUCH!!!! I have no idea what I did to deserve it or if I did anything but I really appreciate it and cannot wait to use it! BWEEE!!!!

Also - to Feei - thank you for the lovely userinfo gift! I love you too, you know!

That concludes the most recent spate of movies and books. I'm shocked that I have my first two 10s in this post but there you have it.

In other news - I made my mother and sister watch Boondock Saints and they were suitably impressed. My brother and his family were here for the day and we were all talking about the movie and he wanted to borrow it and I grabbed it to my bosum and snarled "mine". I need that for fantasising research, garshdarnit!

I've another three Norman Reedus movies rented and I'm going to be renting a few Sean Patrick Flanery movies as well. I'm also screencapping like a fool and will be uploading them tomorrow while struggling through payroll.

ramble about how I had to break into my house today and some whinging about how much my hands hurt )
wook77: (Books and Movies: Resolution for 100)
Woke up today to no water at the house I'm sitting out. It seems that the main pipes froze last night (we were SUPER cold last night). So, no shower for me *icks*. I had to go buy bottled water for the puppies and cats so that there's something for them to drink because, of course, the way I found out there was no water was that I went to fill the dogs' dishes.

Got my [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen assignment and I couldn't have asked for a better challenge and assignment! YAYES!!!

Signed up for [livejournal.com profile] hpslashnotsmut where, btw, sign-ups are still open.

Thank God I got an extension for my [livejournal.com profile] hpvalensmut as I'm finally finishing the wrangling into place. [livejournal.com profile] corvidae9 is a brilliant mod and I worship her for the extension *worships*.

[livejournal.com profile] slashfest will be opening the mini round soon... gotta finish getting ready for that.

Work is crazy, am trying desperately to finish all my year end crap by January 31st. We're also migrating payroll systems from one company to another so that's a wee bit stressful as well.

Finally - a couple of book reviews (same disclaimers and spoilers abound):

A rec and some resolution reviews.

First - at [livejournal.com profile] slashfest - [livejournal.com profile] chaeldub took my general prompt of Dean/Seamus - Post Hogwarts, Seamus wants more than is proper and created In Darkness Lies. It's already been picked up on [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_today and it's just that good. It's seriously just amazing. It's angst and has character death and if you need a cry, this is the story for you. Now, I give these warnings because I know some of you aren't fond of character death but... this one is totally and completely gut wrenching and wonderfully amazing. It's just so utterly amazingly and lovely. It absolutely broke me and I adore [livejournal.com profile] chaeldub for it. Apologies to all that have ever written for me but this is the best thing EVER written for me. Go read it and tell him what you think about it, yeah?

Second - Resolution 100 Movies and Books

I've watched a few movies during my stint here with the beasts. Below the cuts are my reviews for each one. Please note that I am reviewing these based on my personal taste and preferences. As such, if I don't enjoy it, you might. I'm not a film critic and some of my reviews may contain things like "I liked this for the hot dudes", so I wouldn't really take me too seriously. One final thing - if you felt the opposite about anything I review, please feel free to discuss it with me. I might be swayed into giving it a second watching/reading and change my mind. Or you might be. See, it works all the way around.

Welcome new friends *waves*.

As I've gained so many new friends, an introduction to moi )

So I'm going to go with [livejournal.com profile] kaalee's suggestion and split the resolution and make it 50 books and 50 movies. I will be posting reviews as I go. If you have books or movies you think I should check out, feel free to list them here. more about this )
