A Rec - Fading Evening Light - It's from The Departed (that's right, I think this just might possibly be the first Departed Fanfic on LJ let alone the first slash one). It's Billy Costigan/Bryce Dignam and OMG SO HOT.
ficlette teased me with it all day and she has Dignam's voice down so well. I adore it so very very much. Obviously it contains spoilers for the movie but if you've seen the movie, you totally need to read this. Think of it as a deleted scene that Scorcese forgot to include. *grins*
A Comm - To encourage more Departed fic...
ficlette and I have created
departed_fic het, slash and femmeslash friendly. Go join and write loads and loads of Dignam, I mean, fic!
A Thanks - To whomever gifted me with the gift certificate to LJ - Thank you SO MUCH!!!! I have no idea what I did to deserve it or if I did anything but I really appreciate it and cannot wait to use it! BWEEE!!!!
Also - to Feei - thank you for the lovely userinfo gift! I love you too, you know!
A Review - Rebel Fey by Barbara and J.C. Hendee
This is book five of a six book series (first is Dhampir, second is Thief of Lives, third is Sister of the Dead and fourth is Traitor to the Blood). Dhampir is my favorite of the series but Rebel Fey is a close second. The overarching story is about a vampire hunter and her half-elf companion.
I rarely pimp the website of the author (actually, I haven't yet) but this one is definitely worth it as it gives quite a bit of information and has really nice sized excerpts. The Noble Dead is fantastic.
This book finds Magiere and Leesil in the Elven lands looking for Leesil's mum and it does a good job of blending the worlds. I get bored with books with loads of posturing and politics but this one kept me interested as it confronted the politics of the Elves and just what happened in the forgotten period. It also gives some fantabulous background for both Leesil and Magiere plus it expands the characters of Chane, Welstiel and Wynn. As always, Chap is my favorite character and so much background is given on him that I actually giggled in glee.
I adore their writing style. You can tell that they're in their rhythm with one another now and the transitions between scenes aren't nearly as choppy as they were in the second and third books. I love the way this story, in particular, flows. There's just enough information and alot of action stuffed into one book.
If you're looking for a fantastic vampire series to read, this is it. It's WAY better than Laurell K Hamilton could ever dream of being. It doesn't have to rely on supposedly-kinky sex and, instead, focuses on the world and lives of these characters. I'd give it a 10 out of 10 but I would've liked a bit more of Welstiel and Chane. I was disappointed in the lack of movement of their storyline.
9.5 out of 10
