A rec and some resolution reviews.

chaeldub took my general prompt of Dean/Seamus - Post Hogwarts, Seamus wants more than is proper and created In Darkness Lies. It's already been picked up on
hogwarts_today and it's just that good. It's seriously just amazing. It's angst and has character death and if you need a cry, this is the story for you. Now, I give these warnings because I know some of you aren't fond of character death but... this one is totally and completely gut wrenching and wonderfully amazing. It's just so utterly amazingly and lovely. It absolutely broke me and I adore
chaeldub for it. Apologies to all that have ever written for me but this is the best thing EVER written for me. Go read it and tell him what you think about it, yeah?
Second - Resolution 100 Movies and Books
I've watched a few movies during my stint here with the beasts. Below the cuts are my reviews for each one. Please note that I am reviewing these based on my personal taste and preferences. As such, if I don't enjoy it, you might. I'm not a film critic and some of my reviews may contain things like "I liked this for the hot dudes", so I wouldn't really take me too seriously. One final thing - if you felt the opposite about anything I review, please feel free to discuss it with me. I might be swayed into giving it a second watching/reading and change my mind. Or you might be. See, it works all the way around.
Lewis Black: Red, White and Angry
This so is a movie even though it's really just him doing stand-up. He's funny, my sort of humor, and this was, for the most part, hilarious. He spoofed on gay marriage, Iraq, the president, his time "whoring himself" doing that president's dinner thing except it was with Dick Cheney and he took on Teri Schiavo.
However, it dragged in places and he repeated himself a few times which annoyed me as well. The funny parts far outweighed the not-so-funny bits.

Fearless
I'm a big fan of Jet Li. I've adored everything he's been in up until this. As it was, this was boring, the fight sequences dragged and teh storyline meandered while there were huge pauses that were meant to be dramatic and were, instead, boring. I watched half of this in fast forward. The fight sequences were, for the most part, boring. They were slow and the moves were, you guessed it, boring. However, putting the fight sequences in fast forward made me think that I was finally watching a Jet Li movie. The UST between Hui and Younxi (sp?) was very well done, however. I really felt horrible for her because she'll never really know what happened to him until years later when word FINALLY trickles to her village. That had me a mite wibbly.
In all honesty, I think that the cinematography blew. The fade in the rice fields, for example, was not smooth at all. Seriously, it was jumpy and it bothered me because the fades and changes for Hero were beautiful and stunning and gorgeous. These? Made me think that even i could do a better job.
Then again, I didn't like the fight sequences in Kill Bill. Actually, I had similar issues with Kill Bill. I thought it boring and lagging and just, in all honesty, a great concept that didn't hit my buttons.
I liked the premise of Fearless. I liked the story, I just wish that it had been better executed.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
I'll give this one the benefit of the doubt as I haven't seen either 1 or 2 of the fast and the furious franchise. BUT... the first about thirty minutes were fast forwarded through because ZOMG BORING. Seriously, WTF with the random tobasco bottle during his first wreck? No, really, I can see the mcdonalds cup and the paper but wtf with the tobasco bottle. And also - wtf with that girl and her whole "aren't I worth it" and "don't you love me" shit. Speaking of random - wtf with the guitar case when Shawn arrives in Japan? I simply do not fucking get it. You don't even see him putting it down once he gets into his dad's place. It's like it just fucking disappeared. But I guess all rebels carry around a guitar.
Ok, so obviously this isn't a chick flick because there's more boob and ass shots than you can shake a dick at. The rest of the scenery (meaning the dudes) weren't all that. If you're going to have ass shot after tit shot of girls, at least have one of the dudes go shirtless for a little bit. I don't think it's asking much. Although, from the pelt rising from Shawn's t-shirt, I'd prefer it not to be him.
Although, while we're speaking of Shawn, his acting might have sucked but I think he and DK were TOTALLY slashable. Seriously. YUM.
Ok, moving away from the dudes... once the action started, the drifting and the racing, the movie got better, meaning, I wasn't sitting there going, "um, hello? Wasting my time here." The chase through the streets was fucking awesome. I actually felt a bit sad when Han bit it since I actually thought he was the best actor in the movie.
Shawn's actor was no Paul Walker and considering I think Paul Walker acts best when he's nekkid and doesn't speak, that's saying something (bad) about Shawn's actor. I also hated how Lilo (whatever that chick's name was, they changed from Lilo to Lila a few times) gained and lost an australian accent when she was speaking english.
Moving on... the last race, though, I kinda sorta scoffed at. Sorry but there's no way that a customised asian sports car is going to be able to knock a muscle car around that much. There's this thing called weight and a muscle car has it and an asian sports car doesn't. Don't believe me? I've driven both. I currently HAVE an asian sportscar. There's no way, if the vehicles are going the same speed, that the asian car is giong to move the muscle car THAT much. Sorry, no. Think of it this way... a sumo wrestler and a ninja are walking along and the ninja bumps into the sumo wrestler. Do you really think the sumo wrestler is going to move over 5 feet? no fucking way.
I did like the stunts though. The one with the falling car was really fucking spectacular. Also, I drooled over some of the customisation. That was frelling awesome.
Best five minutes of the movie? The very end with Vin Diesel. Not sure if you all know this but I love Vin Diesel. He's hot even if he's a lot older than I ever thought he was. I'd still fuck him. (err, perhaps too blunt and TMI for a movie review) Anyway, I just liked how he was all Vin and cocky and shit.
I shall now be renting the fast and the furious one and two. With Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, at least there'd be better eye candy for me.
End result - worth the free rental. Stilted Dialogue, crappy acting, hot cars, beautiful men and women (with the exception of Shawn and his horrible teeth) and fucking hot stunts. I'd watch it again if someone else paid for it.

Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code
I originally read the first two Artemis Fowl books for a crossover challenge and enjoyed them though I thought Artemis needed a good spanking by his mother. When I heard that Devon Murray (oh Seamus, you cute cute lad) was up for the role of Artemis, I thought I'd finish off the series.
The Eternity Code was along the lines of the first two. Artemis has a scheme, Artemis fucks up even though he's so brilliant, Artemis gets bailed out by Butler, the fairies come swooping in to bail out both Butler and Artemis, YAYES the day is saved and Artemis promises to go straight (and probably doesn't).
My favorite character is Holly Short. She's funny and quirky. Mulch Diggums is awesome as well. Foaly rocks and is ubersmart. I don't like Artemis's mum very much. She's insane in the first one and then all of a sudden decides "I must be a responsible parent". That annoys me in real life so it's well written to annoy me here *winks*.
It was a good, quick and light read.
