Been having a brilliant time.

Got to meet [livejournal.com profile] elanorofcastile's family today. They're awesome. Her Dad can really cook and her brother is wicked funny and her mum is super nice.

We went to Trekfest on Saturday which, yanno, was all right. The parade was interesting though I don't think the participants got the whole "Mirror, Mirror" theme as there were a lot of Snow White references and not so many with the Star Trek references. But, I did get candy hurled at me and [livejournal.com profile] elanorofcastile did get a set of beads without having to show her tits so, yanno, win.

It was hot and sticky and miserable, though. Quite a few of the events were cancelled due to flooding. I got mud in all sorts of places I haven't got mud in for a very long time.

So we headed to the casino and had a good time hanging out there. [livejournal.com profile] dramedy and two of her friends popped in and we all gambled, giggling and laughing the whole time. Her two friends are wicked fun, as to be expected as [livejournal.com profile] dramedy is just as funny and awesome. [livejournal.com profile] dramedydrew some awesome stuff but I'll have to link to her post about it.

Mall of America was awesome. [livejournal.com profile] elanorofcastile rode her first roller coaster (I totes popped her roller coaster cherry). She meeped but held up a hand during parts of it. Brilliant time. If you get a chance to go, there's this one roller coaster that sends you straight up (literally, straight up) and then sends you straight down into two loops. Very awesome. Add in that it was the Spongebob themed and that rocked hardcore.

Now, [livejournal.com profile] elanorofcastile and I are now watching Star Trek, drinking, eating popcorn and writing. Go mirror!verse!

I'm sitting at the Phoenix airport with free wi-fi (w00t!) and writing and trying to keep awake until I get on the first plane. I'm off to see [livejournal.com profile] elanorofcastile and barely miss seeing [livejournal.com profile] enchanted_jae. The first is w00t, the second is *sadface*.

We'll be heading to Trekfest in Riverside Iowa. Anyone else going? Want to meet up?

I'm really looking forward to a relaxing trip. I figure if I get less than 10 calls from work while I'm on vacation will mean that it's a relaxing trip. I get to log in and work on homework and work during the trip but that's all right. I can deal with remote log in. It's the calling while I'm doing something fun that annoys me.

There are small children on my flight. Thankfully, I'm in an exit row this first flight so that means no kids right next to me. And leg room. Speaking of legs, the last time I flew, I ended up having painful swelling for days afterwards. This time, I have really ugly compression socks on to relieve the swelling and improve the circulation. Even before flying, my legs feel better. It's weird not to feel like a bursting water balloon for my legs. So this is how the rest of you guys feel with your legs? Sort of normal and functioning?

Dear PHX Airport, you ever think about putting outlets near a comfy chair rather than next to the trashcans where you have to sit on the floor? My ass is numb and I've only been sitting here for about 20 minutes. It's just a thought but considering your tagline is "America's Friendliest Airport", you might want to take it under advisement. <3, me

ETA: They keep paging Bobby Brown and all I can keep thinking is that he's probably in the bar drinking or beating up Whitney somewhere. And, I could be wrong, but I think Phoenix is where Whitney got pulled over for DUI.

I'm currently in Raleigh-Durham with [livejournal.com profile] best_of_five. I've had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] karaz and [livejournal.com profile] ficlette and omg, do I love the people here :D Having a great time... now if I could just work less on both work and homework and work MOAR on writing my [livejournal.com profile] trekreversebang because omg, wtf, self?! Get that shit done! You're posting soon!

Anyway, I got an email from my mum this morning. She was watering plants right outside our sliding glass door and, in the corner (between the glider and the rocking chair and underneath about 10 plants in varying heights), my mother spots a baby rattlesnake. So she does what anyone would do and slides the furniture away from it, removes all the plants and plant stands and then, using a medium-sized dog dish, slams a dish over the snake and then covers it with pavers and rocks to keep the snake under it. Wouldn't anyone? I mean, I'd totally give a baby rattlesnake eighty billion opportunities to bite me. Wouldn't you?

My mother, unfortunately, wins the distinction of being one of the stupidest people ever with this activity. WHO THE HELL DOES THAT!? And then she got all upset when the firefighter that came to take the snake was all WTF LADY!? She's planning on doing it again if we get another snake. WTFWTFWTFWTF JESUS GOD WTF

Then I'm talking to my sister about the above when my sister mentions a bomb threat at her school. JESUS GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING IN TUCSON!?

When I fly out in the middle of the night on Sunday, I get to Phoenix at like 1130am. Then, from there, off to a nephew's birthday party. 10 hours of travel right into a birthday party for a 4 year old. w00t!

Travelling!

At Phoenix airport. Shuttle ride was long. There was a girl sitting next to me that reminded me of [livejournal.com profile] jehnt a lot. I kept waiting for her to snuggle up to me, possibly spoon or something. She was very nice and talked to me about her dogs and how she was going to volunteer at her local shelter to help the animals.

There was a couple with me that are going to spend 12 days in Europe and all they're taking is an oversized backpack each. *eyes medium-sized suitcase, laptop bag and backpack for my 9 day trip* In my defense, I totally only packed 5 pairs of shoes! When I went to San Francisco for [livejournal.com profile] azkatraz last year, I packed like 10 (for a 5 day trip?) AND I bought 2 pairs.

Also - Phx needs power plugs near chairs. Srsly. This floor freaking sucks hardcore.

Atlanta, here I come. THEN, after that I get to Raleigh. w00t!

I had a rant about authors behaving badly but, meh, it's nothing that hasn't been said better by others. I'll sum and say, if you cannot step back from a bad review and/or concrit to the point that you are flaming the person(s) (ie, posting their phone numbers and encouraging people to call them and tell them what a douche they are (and/or the fandom equivalent), wishing death and destruction upon their heads, namecalling, etc) then you might be the one in need of wood for a cross upon which to martyr yourself.

I started using my Twitter tonight. I finally got an app that makes sense for me. You can follow me, just drop me a line as to who you are if you want me to add back. Please? I've gotten quite a few troll/sock/random empty journal friendings even before I started using it so if your twitter name isn't the same as your LJ name, can you let me know here?

Plus, I've protected the entries for the next week or so. Accidentally followed my employer and then unfollowed, blocked and flocked. I'm such an idiot. I meant to hit another button and, instead, BAM - following and bringing my fandom info into my work.

ETA: LOL I forgot to mention that I'm wook77 on Twitter. I'm an idiot /eta

Azkatraz next week! BWEE! Anyone interested in going to Six Flags San Francisco Bay? Supposedly it is accessible via public transportation and I'd really really like to go to it. Anyone? If you buy your tix online, it's $29.99 a ticket.

My ever-so-douche-y boss at Fry's scheduled me to work 6-midnight on Wednesday before my flight on Thursday which is at 5am. Thanks for nothing, you jerkface. There's a reason I requested off for the 15th.

My Kirk Sammich fic is done and at the betas.

I really like this whole not stressing over deadlines and writing what I want thing. It's rather fun.

oh ew

Almost back home. Am stuck in the Phoenix airport for a two hour layover. How long would it take me to DRIVE to Tucson? 2 hours. US Airways wanted fifty bucks on the offchance that I might, just might, be able to take an earlier flight. Um, yeah, no.

My tour of soft surfaces is basically over. I had plenty of them and plenty of fun, too. The last flight was a bit awkward. I wrote about 16 pages in my journal but also had to have a weird convo with the very religious people next to me. They kept asking me what I was writing and when I was getting published and I didn't want to tell them that I was writing gay buttsex between wizards in the Harry Potter world. Thus, I said "I'm sort of writing a romance novel" cause it's true, right? There's romance or, at least, my version of romance which involves plenty of break-ups and angst and character death. But still! It has romance somewhere!

My iPod battery died mid-flight. The guy in front of me was an asshole who kept thrusting his chair back into my legs. Those that have met me will attest, I'm not the tallest person in the world. So just imagine what manuevering he had to do to nail me in the knees about 30 times. Then he stands up and steps on my foot. I was in so much pain that I couldn't breathe and so I tapped him on the hip and he glared at me. So I huffed, "foot. foot. FOOT!" and he finally looked down and then went "why are you touching me?" I'M TOUCHING YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE CRUSHING MY TOES UNDER YOUR BOOTS, ASSWIPE! MOVE YOUR FUCKING FOOT! (I might have said that out loud... though it might have been "move your motherfucking foot" but I can't remember due to the blur of pain.)

Also - there's this semi-creepy kid across from me. He keeps shifting positions and he's moaning. I'm sort of suspicious that he's wanking. I'm really skeezed right now. His shoes are off and his socks are pushed into his toes and omg. He just moaned again and his hand is definitely near his waist. EW EW EW DO NOT WANT!!! DO NOT WANT!!!! If I could do scrolly text, I would. DO NOT WANT STOP THAT YOU PERVERT! EWEWEWEW

Oh god. Not travelling again for a very long time.

Dear Tucson flight - plz to be hurrying and plz to not be having me sit next to the kid. Plz. Love, me

Today is the last day of my trip and, unfortunately, my last day off in the next three weeks. Yes, that means I'm working Saturdays and Sundays for the next three weeks. Have I mentioned lately what a moron my boss is and how much I hate my job?

I just applied for three more jobs at the University.

I met up with [livejournal.com profile] star98hope yesterday and omg. She is awesome :D. We laughed and gossiped about work and fandom and we even discussed the evil and non-working Ron!cock.

Then, when she unfortunately needed to head back to work, I headed out to the FDR Memorial and wrote for like 3 hours. I had a scene that wasn't working in my head and I fixededededed it there next to the waterfall while staring at an amazing quotation about social justice.

Icee ([livejournal.com profile] janicechess for those that don't remember my crazy nicknames) is evil. She not only got her husband interested in Bleach but I was forced to watch a few episodes. I was all for just watching but then she said the fated words "Renji has tattoos. They go all the way down his back." and I was hooked on Renji. Not so much hooked on the anime or anything but oooh, Renji's tattoos are pretty.

I kind of sort of have a date when I get back in Tucson. I've been borrowing a lot of books from the library and the one librarian is really cute in a nerdygeekylibrarian sort of way. So we were going to go out for dinner but I was travelling so he called me yesterday while I was at the FDR and we talked for about 30 minutes, reconfirming dinner plans. So yayes for date-age.

Off to pack to get to the airport at 3. Icee very kindly is coming to pick me up and take me to the Metro so I don't have to haul my heavy bags 1.5 miles to the Metro. She really really is the bestest. I sort of want to hide under the covers and pretend that she can't see me so I never have to leave and go back to work ever again.

Also - last trip until a certain braintwin (who secretly loves my mocking of the Xena) comes to visit. Travelling only reminds me how much I hate my job :/.

State of the vacation so far:

Wedding? Made of win. Cold but made of win. It was quite beautiful and very [livejournal.com profile] fiona_fawkes and [livejournal.com profile] mijan.

Boston? I was lazy and sat on my ass for most of the trip. [livejournal.com profile] yodels's futon is amazingly comfortable. Also - randomly shopping in Maine with [livejournal.com profile] janicechess and [livejournal.com profile] misterchess along with [livejournal.com profile] yodels was awesome. We went to dinner that night with [livejournal.com profile] kriken and her boy and some of her boy's friends. I would like to clone the boy. Comics and accepting of slash? Win incarnate.

Took the Chinatown bus to NYC. Met up for dim sum with [livejournal.com profile] midnitemaraud_r, [livejournal.com profile] titti, [livejournal.com profile] ziasudra and [livejournal.com profile] paranoidsistah. All of them are just about the most awesome people ever. And then we had ice cream at some chinese ice cream factory store and then we had gelati at an Italian place.

Missed out meeting [livejournal.com profile] nefernat due to a combo of later-than-planned arrival + luggage + needing a shower + trainride back in. Am hopeful that the DC meet-up will happen instead.

Spent the rest of the NYC time sleeping and reading horribly bad stories on [livejournal.com profile] midnitemaraud_r's couch of awesome. It really is awesome.

Met up with [livejournal.com profile] miz_thang88 today before I took the bus to Philly. People. She is awesome. (I keep using that word) Not only was she willing to be adaptable to time (I missed my first train and then it took us about 2 extra hours to meet up than what we'd planned) but we laughed the entire time we were together. Srsly so much love for her. Though I have to admit that she made me feel like a liliputian cause that girl is tall. She's also rather beautiful. <3 In addition to all that, she holds doors, lifts luggage up and down crazy amounts of stairs and is all around love.

Took the Bolt Bus to Philly. I will never ride a chinatown bus again. This sucker was basically a brand new bus, clean, efficient, not smelly and it had free wifi and power outlets. Srsly. FREE WIFI on the bus. Best part?! It was even CHEAPER than the chinatown buses. My trip to Philly cost me $7.50 total with all fees and stuffs included. How awesome is that?

My older sister's continued lack of time management meant that I hung out in downtown Philly for an extra hour in the cold (yes, 70 degrees is cold so STFU. My toes were turning blue but thank god for that jacket i bought in Maine).

Am now at my sister's and I get to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] kerryblaze tomorrow night. I'm really looking forward to that! My sister and I had planned on goign to the Franklin Institute's pirate exhibit but it's fucking expensive and I'd rather just go do the free touristy shit instead. Then on Thursday - we're going to a cross stitch store and then off to a motorcycle jaunt. Then on Friday - it's off to Atlantic City with my dad and sister and then on Saturday, possibly Hersheypark with my dad. Then - Sunday - dad and me head to DC to stay with [livejournal.com profile] janicechess and to hang out with peeps. Tuesday? Breakfast/lunch/brunch with [livejournal.com profile] star98hope!

How's everyone?
wook77: (mike lange - you'd have to be here to be)
Heading out on my giant east coast tour of doom. Will be VERY sporadic until October 2nd.

I'll prolly post random shit about my travels and stuffs. Anyone in Boston, NYC, Philadelphia or DC want to meet up? Email me or comment here?

Text if you gots it or want to use the thingy on my profile.

Also - am handwriting recaps of other trips. Still coming, I haven't forgotten the titclaiming post(s).

Sort of Hiatus until October.

Link me to the good stuff?

Dear Chicago Hilton,

Let me introduce you to the San Diego Holiday Inn. We have free parking AND free wi-fi here. Shocking, isn't it? And... the breakfast? Isn't 22 bucks. I know, I know, but you're the Hilton. I don't really care. Try harder.

Other things made of win at this hotel? No power surges, no frying of the new cell phone, plenty of plugs, a nice-sized bathroom where B0F can brush her teeth while I'm showering (if we weren't so lazy that we haven't left the beds yet) and all sorts of awesome like the freaking fridge.

No love,
me

B0F totally put on the Olympics in Spanish - a language she doesn't speak and an event I just don't give a shit about. Maybe it makes me a bad American but really - who the hell cares? I just do not get the Olympics.

We've taken today to be a lazy day with work and stuff. Why? Mainly because B0F got like 2 hours of sleep because of the Olympics and her obsession with certain tennis players and my boss calling. Yes. My boss called at like 9am ON A DAY OF VACATION and then was SHOCKED when I wasn't awake.

I need to find [livejournal.com profile] the_rainbow_jen's phone number because I had accidentally saved it to my old phone and not my sim card so when I got my new phone, it didn't transfer over.

We had to call my mum to mapquest the hotel because we didn't even think about directions to find the hotel until we were about 150 miles from Tucson. Oops. But we found the hotel just find (well, technically, I found the hotel just fine as B0F totally fell asleep on me :(). Driving through the mountains at night was really really creepy. It took us 4 hours extra to get to San Diego. We kept wandering everywhere. Also - Major Fail, US Airways. Poor B0F's luggage got lost and arrived on the second plane and we wandered around the San Xavier Mission.

Speaking of Major Fail - George Lucas - you fail too. Srsly? Gay Hutts? Do you not know your own creations? Srsly? Also - wtf. Thank you ever so much for being such a stereotypical fucktard. Why is it that every time you open your mouth, I lose just that much more respect for you? I used to love you but now? I just don't know you anymore.

Methinks it's time to actually get out of bed :(. Maybe I'll go for some breakfast. It's only served for another forty-five minutes. Meh. Are pancakes that important? ETA: God bless room service. Also - B0F and I are chatting while reclining in beds right next to one another. We rule :P.
