wook77: (Deamus - Kiss)
Today (well, today in Australia) is [livejournal.com profile] chaeldub's birthday. One of two things can happen. I will either be late with his gift!fic or... he can contact the government to have his date of birth moved. I'm even willing to write a letter verifying the very real need for this date change.

However, it seems much more likely that I will be late. Thus, instead of having gift!fic now, I shall extend the birthday celebration, yeah? Happy Birthday, Chael! I truly hope that it is absolutely smashing!

Now, in honour of his birthday as I have to do something for him on the day. Thus, a few recs of my favourites of his works. Please leave a comment if you enjoy them.

My absolute most favorite thing ever of [livejournal.com profile] chaeldub's is In Darkness Lies. Summary: Seamus learns that it is not the chances that we take but the choices we make that determine our destiny. It's Seamus/Dean and GAH. Sure, he wrote this for me but that's not the reason I love it. The reason I love it is that it is so creative and brilliant and heartbreakingly beautiful. I cannot possibly express how much win this story is made from. It's about 19k and worth the time to read it. Please to be having tissues handy.

The inspiration for this story was a comment I made in response to Eat of the Apple (Harry/Lucius) Summary: After the war, in a world without Voldemort, without friends, Harry lives his life like a ghost. In Lucius Malfoy's mind, even the brightest star has to fade sometime. Now the former Chosen One will meet the new Dark Lord. The words "Dystopian world" sort of freaked my shit out for a bit as the word seems to be used for pretentious twaddle that sucks. However, this story is just amazing in its darkness and the despair and everything. I love both of these so much.

They can be read independently or together. I prefer to read the entire thing. In fact, I go back to them quite often.

A Small Crime (Harry/Colin) An act of love - ends in death. An act of death - ends in marriage. An act of convenience - ends in a small crime. Written before DH, Colin's world is so very insular and dry that you wonder how it came to that when he was such a dynamic character in the books. It's a wonderful story that's slightly angsty, slightly fluffy and completely enjoyable.

Five Rings - Dean/Seamus featuring the most gorgeous artwork ever. Alcohol and lust are a dangerous combination... especially for six boys fresh from a war trying to find their way in the world. This is not only written for me (GAH YAYES) but it's also some fairly awesome storytelling. I love the different vignettes in it. Add in the artwork and it still makes me gush.

20 Things about Colin Creevey is also awesome. It's obviously twenty things about Colin. The one that sticks out the most for me is 3. The only magic his father every taught him was how to write his name in the snow. Which Colin thinks is brilliant.

Little House by the Sea Series is an ongoing series that you'll want to check out. It has a spot of confusion, some upset, some interesting ideas on how to bring [Person x] back and more. They're an enjoyable fun time even in the midst of confusion and upset.

So, there you have it, my top favorite stories by [livejournal.com profile] chaeldub. It doesn't make up for not finishing this darn fic in time but it's a bit closer, yeah?

Love you, Chael.

wook77: (true tales from the case files)
Today was the workday from hell.

It started with an email from the payroll company telling me that they were unwilling to do further research and that I should seek legal counsel to sue an employee to get the duplicate paid funds back from said employee. Only catch? Said employee only got the funds once, as I've been saying from the beginning. It was clearly apparent that the fucktard hadn't bothered to look at my email let alone the email attachment showing the employee's bank statement illustrating that they only got the funds once. Fucking fucktarding assholes.

Then, we have our annual audit going on right now. work babble )

Fandom-wise, I'm writing for fun and that is very very nice. I have a huge deamus that will eventually go along with the [livejournal.com profile] 100quills claim I made for Deamus but for now, I'm just tweaking for canon compliance before I start sending to beta and then posting. It's sitting at about 27000 words right now with IDK how many more to go.

[livejournal.com profile] rs_small_gifts is making me feel like the nose-picker in elementary school that's last to get picked for dodgeball. I thought I made relatively open requests but no one's claimed any of them. *le sad* All I want is kissing. That's it. However, I claimed something that is made of win and the only problem with it that I shall have is keeping it small. Plus the mods are made of win and have promised everyone who claims will get something so I still have something to look forward to, regardless of said nose-picker status.

UGH, speaking of nosepicking, brief rant about Tucson drivers ) Sorry about that, now on to the rest of the post...

[livejournal.com profile] thescarletwoman and I have assumed the reins at [livejournal.com profile] rs_prophet and we're looking to revitalize and relaunch it. If you have any current Remus/Sirius writers you think we should watch, leave a list here, please. Also, if you're interested in being an editor, email me? wook77[at]livejournal[dot]com.

Typing my email up there reminded me that my paid account is expiring soon. I'm really sad to be losing my icons and that whole LJ email thing.

Finally, a couple of recs.

Because I'm finally able to put coherent thought into it. At [livejournal.com profile] hpslashnotsmut, I received Observance and it's Dean/Seamus. Brilliant composition and form, unique and lovely. Add in that this mystery author's characterisations are spot-on and I'm in love. It entwines within the Deathly Hallows canon and it's seamless, really. Just little bibs and bobs of canon that I just love so much. It's extremely well done and I can't tell you that enough. There's these little idiosyncratic observances that really make the story completely full and vibrant. It had me from the first sentence, really. I wanted to know more and the author really gave me just enough to fill in the blanks ALMOST to the point of being satiated. I absolutely love a story that does that for me. I'm gobsmacked that it only has 2 comments on it. Surely more people have read it and enjoyed it.

[livejournal.com profile] kaalee wrote a stream-of-consciousness drabble-ish Dean/Seamus for my birthday - Deadly Perfection. We've had these conversations about how I'm a bit of a stream of consciousness author, I like giving insights into their heads and writing exactly what the characters are thinking and [livejournal.com profile] kaalee claims that she can't do that. Personally, I think and have thought, she's full of shit. This right here is my physical proof. It flows really nicely and gives you a fleshed out picture simply by what it implies in between the thoughts.

Go forth and heap the love by telling the creators of these (and more) works that you enjoyed them!

Honesty meme going around... again. Here's the deal for me - I am not looking and not leaving any comments. If I have something to say to you, I'll say it to your face, not under the guise of an anonymous meme. That being said, you always have the option to say what you think of me to my face as well. I don't need an honesty meme to let things out.

Moving on - I spent all day Saturday in a car. We're talking 14 hours of driving around Tucson and Phoenix looking at model homes. We went to an assload of developments and looked at too many houses for me to think about. If I never see another model home, it'll be too soon. Then, I drove around today and bought myself a new cellphone my old one wouldn't hold a battery charge and would randomly sign itself off the network. It's complicated and has way too many features but it's shiny and new. Then again, I was also supposed to get my new fender installed today and that didn't happen.

[livejournal.com profile] slashcast episode is out and I'm interviewed in it along with the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] sazzlette and [livejournal.com profile] irrevokable by [livejournal.com profile] charlotteschaos. I hope I don't sound like a twat and I can't listen to it until tomorrow morning when it's done dl'ing.

Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] sazzlette - she has pwned me tonight. She wrote brilliant crossdressing Deamus! The Fashion Police Keep Chasing and it has really hot public sex in a telephone booth. Do I really need to say anything more? Wait, yes I do... go read it and you'll love it too!

New prompt at [livejournal.com profile] hp_quince finally because I'm a twat. It's "men" - go forth and write a fic in 15 minutes about men, I know you can do it!

Speaking of prompts - [livejournal.com profile] hd_falling's Merry Month of May prompts are going up early tomorrow morning (for me. For you, it could be afternoon or tomorrow or whatever). You all are just chomping at the bit to write for it, aren't you?

I have fic tomorrow and then more fic the day after and.... more fic the day after that! SCORE! (what else was I going to do while stuck in the backseat of a car driving around for 14 hours?) Though there are multiple fandoms in there. I've written two somethings for [livejournal.com profile] slash_friday as I think it's an absolutely brilliant prompt this week.
