Some of you might know, some of you might not but... tomorrow is
ficlette's birthday. As we share far too many fandoms and OTPs together, I've been forced to launch the week of love for her birthday.
Day 1 -
Title: You Can't Always Get What You Want
Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Dom/Evi, Dom/Billy
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 370ish
Warnings: angst
Summary: Dom doesn't know what to think about things. He's satisfied except for that small gnawing hunger in his belly
A/N:Unbeta'd.
Sometimes, Dom doesn't know what to think. He likes his life, he's well satisfied with things, for the most part. His career is brilliant even if there's talk that his character is the next to die. He's got a brilliant girlfriend, as well. She has beautiful legs, a sunny smile and she pretends to care about things almost as much as he actually does.
It's just that, every once in awhile, there's this vague frisson of across his spine that reminds him of dissatisfaction. It normally happens after some reporter asks about Bills or the script they've been working on for a trillion years because they can't seem to get two seconds together without someone interrupting. Other times, it curls up in his gut at the airport while he's seeing Billy off and Evi's arm is around his waist. It's almost like she's holding on to him to keep him from boarding with Billy, running away to wherever like he's brought up jokingly but not as a joke.
It's really only when he wonders what it would've been like, how things would've changed, if he'd reached out that time in Wellington. Or that time while they were stuck up in Treebeard. Or every morning while they'd been stuck together in make up.
It's only when he wonders "what if" but that's really just a game he should be playing in his journals and not giving voice to. And play it, he does. He writes page after page of what might have been, how different it would feel to have Billy be the one pressing his lips against Dom's instead of Evi, how different his life would be had he gone to Scotland with Billy instead of LA with Elijah, how different he would be if he'd had Billy to push him out of his funk when the jobs hadn't rolled in.
Besides, "what if" never will happen because he can't change the past no matter how much he might wish. It's his future he should be worrying about, not his past. He proposed to Evi last week.
She doesn't need to know that his first though upon hearing her acceptance was 'I wonder how Bill will react'.

Date: 2007-02-19 07:51 pm (UTC)Seriously, have I told you lately how awesome you are? I loved this piece, especially: It's almost like she's holding on to him to keep him from boarding with Billy, running away to wherever like he's brought up jokingly but not as a joke. GAH. I have you to thank for this OTP, as well as practically all the other ones. Just, ah. LOVE. THANK YOU.
