Why the Molly hate?
May. 15th, 2006 01:10 pmI was reading a craptacular story written by an author that I adore mocking.
That being said... a theme that runs throughout this author's stories is - Molly bashing/hating. I thought it was just further proof as to the craptacularness of this author but it turns out I was wrong.
It seems that there is more than one person out there that dislikes Molly for whatever reasons...
My questions to you -
Does anyone else hate on Molly and, if so, why the Molly hate?
No wank and please to be providing reasons.

Date: 2006-05-16 08:04 am (UTC)I like Molly. I can just understand why others wouldn't if this is how they feel.
I will say that I dislike the attitude that when Harry and Ginny get married (poking my eyes out) or Ron and Hermione get hitched, the ideal will be for the females to pop out 10 kids. One, not my ideal for them. Two, that doesn't seem in character for these ladies, particularly Hermione. I'm not saying you can't have kids and be a scientist, obviously you can. I just get the sense that some writers assume that Hermione and Ginny will be just like Molly. And that's improbable. Like you said, Molly's fertility is not the norm for the Wizarding World. But that's what other writers desire for their fanfiction, and I can just overlook it. ... And now this is OT. Sorry Wook. M.

Date: 2006-05-16 10:52 am (UTC)I once read a fic where Molly was secretly an Unspeakable. I don't think that entirely works with canon, but it was a nice idea...

Date: 2006-05-16 03:53 pm (UTC)My family has 4 (used to have 5) children in it. I can remember another family down the block that had 8 kids. Both of our families were viewed as somewhat irresponsible. The other reaction was... oh they must be Catholic. Which, err, was completely true but not the reason why there were so many kids. Mum wanted to have a big family, so they did.
I can see the pro-Ginny thing as well. Others pointed out below that it was her treatment of Hermione and Sirius as well. I'd honestly forgotten about the Sirius thing and I brushed off the Hermione thing. Makes me reconsider a bit.
