This has been brewing for a bit... I'll try to stay polite but...

I belong to a shitload of comms. Maybe not as many as some but there are lots. Sometimes there are fic searches in those comms. I don't mind them if the searcher isn't spamming every frikken comm related to that pairing at the same time.

In fact, sometimes I re-discover old favourites, discover new favourites and sporking material and, I'll admit it, I've had an ego boost or two when one of my stories was searched for.

What I hate are the posts from people bitching about fic searches. I especially hate when people are all "ZOMG if you don't stop the fic searches, I'm going to leave this comm!!1!1!oneoneone".

Get. The. Fuck. Over. Yourself.

At least a fic search promotes discussion and allows for people to find something new to (re)read. You (and this is a general you) pissing and moaning about the fic searches does nothing but promote wank.

Scroll past 'em. Leave the comm. Piss and moan in your own journal about fic searches. I don't much care. Keep it out of the comm and stop making lurkers/newbies/others feel guilty about enjoying a story enough to want to read it again.

I do realise the hypocrisy of my post as I'm bitching about people bitching about fic searches but it never fails to annoy me. But at least I'm only annoying my flist and following my own advice, right?

Here, here. I saw it and was like, wait a minute, haven't we all ready been OVER THIS?? I don't know, if you don't like it just get over it or leave. I have to agree with that anonamouse and say that usually the fic searches are better than some of the fics posted there. Plus, I have found so many awesome fics like this and I just, whatever. Pointless wank!

Hell. Yes.

I like fic searches. They're so useful, and many's the story I've discovered and enjoyed because of them!

I've even posted a few myself, and damn it's handy to be able to say 'hey, anyone know this story?' and have someone post a link.

And if I'm not in the mood, I skip 'em. SO EASY. I don't understand how people can't skip posts on their f-list which they don't like. O_o

Exactly! It's so easy to scroll past. Heck, maybe my mouse makes it too easy on me with it's little scroll ball but still, I have a touchpad at home and it's easy there as well.

I just seriously do not get the wangst over them. The thing that gets me is that the "I hate fic search" posts keep happening even though time and again, people respond politely with, I happen to like them.

It's very handy to have someone find a story for you. Plus, I find loads of stories that way, in multiple fandoms.

I still don't understand why people should have to.

Because you can't control who posts in a community, so sometimes you have to read past community posts you're not interested in.

I have a mixed reaction -- I like the fic searches that are specific but loathe the "I'm bored and I'm searching for fics where harry and draco were both girls at one point and then the font on the side of the page was green zomg if you want to rec me anything else that's completely not related to this search that's fine too because did I mention I was bored and that you live to entertain me?" Those make me want to go stabbity.

The regular ones are good :)

See, even those, I don't mind. I just scroll past if they don't interest me. If they do or I find I'm in need for something to read, I'll click on it. It lets me know what people are reading and enjoying.

Thanks! The recent "I hate fic search" posts have just been driving me up a wall. One of them was posted in a fic search group for George Lucas's sake. I guess the logic train doesn't stop at their station or something.

People just need a reason to wank and it is stupid and annoying but we all know that our bitching about them bitching isn't going to stop them bitching grrrr. *hugs wook and lurkers/newbies/others*.

Yeah, it just got to the boiling point and I just couldn't not say anything, yanno? It seems like the "I hate fic searches and if they don't stop I'm leaving this comm" posts happen once a week, anymore.

And the irony is that they're trying to reduce such posts when they're the ones who're spamming!

Unfortunately, we cannot get away from the assholes in the world. Sorry for any offense that may have caused. But... yeah.
