Recently, some comments regarding warnings have gotten me curious... so here goes, a poll!

I dislike warnings on fic, because I just hate to be spoiled. If a character is going to die, I don't wantr to know. I would rather find out like the rest of the characters do, you know?

Keels Harry in the prologue - bwuhaha... (well, sorta) I imagine that probably turned a few people off reading any further.

Maybe, it just made me wonder how you managed 60k words of and H/D story after that. Hehe. :D I don't mind when characters are killed. Death in fic (obviously) doesn't bother me.

That's true. It might be more poignant if I don't know, but then I might hate you (in general) for it... but still love the work.

For character death, I definitely agree.

For certain kinks, I'd like to be warned. I'm really not a fan of felching, for example, so to be surprised by it would not make me happy.

mostly i really, really don't like dark fic, so i'll tend to avoid writers who play there. i'll read blood play if there is a vampire involved no problem, but on the whole i don't like knifeplay. not wild about bodily fluid fic, but less inclined to run screaming depending on the writer, the fluid and how long the piece is. i don't neccessarily like to be warned of all things, cause i do usually trust the writer. and would ignore any warning on say an emma fic or a geoviki fic. but sometimes it is nice to be prepared.

Yeah, I'm with you. If I know the reader and respect them, depending on the kink, I'll read it anyway. But there are certain kinks that squick me no matter what (bloodplay being one) and I can't stand to read it.

I'm amazed at the number of people that selected ass hair though ;)

I'll read almost anything, except mpreg (where the hell it came from I don't want to know, but I wish it would go back)
I prefer not to be warned for Character Death, I want ot be surprised by it when it happens, I figure there must be a reason for killing someone in a fic so if you do I'm wiling to go along with that.
I'll read OOC if it's an AU or AR but I would prefer they stay in character not matter what universe they are in. I don't care if Draco is Harry's buddy on the Millenium Falcon, he still has to be a proud and stuck-up prat.

See, I don't actually mind mpreg. I like quite a few mpregs out there.

Character death... I agree, I want to be shocked and have that emotional "punch in the gut".

I won't really read OOC... that makes me cringe.

I love being surprised when reading fics, and really not much of anything squicks me, but some people like the heads-up. Although, why skip the warnings if you know there are certain things that you'll absolutely refuse to read? That doesn't make much sense. Honestly, how long does it take to read the warnings? Those precious seconds may save you from Hagrid/Slughorn felching.

Yep, agrees and ZOMG you didn't warn for mentioning Hagrid/Slughorn felching! *snirt*

I don't get why people will/won't read warnings and then their only comments are on those warnings. It makes no sense.

I never give any warning that go beyond 'dark' or 'angst' because do we ever get warned what's in a book when we pick it off a shelf? I'd absolutely hate it if a book that I'm interested in has a label saying 'character death' because it's spoiled then, I'm not gonna bother reading something if one of the major plot twists has already been revealed to me. I also absolutely dislike when authors put 'character death' in their warnings because I really don't want to know. It doesn't have the same effect anymore and I have been actually flamed quite a lot for my lack of warnings. If it's something really squeamish (which I don't write anyways) then maybe I'll put non-con because people aren't too into it but nothing major.

Anyways that was a rant :/ sorry. Just for something better now:
