Rants

A couple of rants -

So we had an open house today to help sell the house. We paid 115 bucks for a huge ad in the paper, bought 10 bucks worht of balloons and then, bright and early this morning, put out the signs. Noon rolls around and we've got bubkiss. One rolls around and still no one. Two rolls around, yet again, no one. Three and no one. Four and we close up. As we're driving to get our signs, we notice that the sign that had been in our front yard with balloons attached, is gone.

Driving down the street to retrieve the other signs (there were 4 total with balloons attached to all), we notice that OUR signage and OUR balloons are pointing to SOMEONE ELSE'S HOUSE! Our realtor had an open house at a house one fucking street up from us and they used our signs to point to it! Worst part was that our ad said "follow the help-u-sell signs to the house and omg, so enraged I was ready to cry. We just paid over 125 bucks for SOMEONE ELSE'S OPEN HOUSE!!!!

I'm still borderline tears over this because it's so sneaky and underhanded. I thought our realtors were incompetent but I didn't think they were at this level of low. I mean, it's not like we didn't do our bits to do the open house and stuff. Help-U-Sell is all about the seller doing most of the work which we did. Then, to actually go out and take all this shit from us for someone else when they should be doing their own goddamn work?! I'm actually tearing up just typing this because it was just such a betrayal.

So, their contract expires in a little less than a month and we've already found another realtor who works for the number 2 realty company in Tucson. They're reasonable and good friends with the guy that's helping us to build our house. Hopefully, he's fairly dynamic and will get this place sold without pulling these sorts of tricks.

First, to all the new people on my flist, I work at a humane society so that's where this is coming from.

Work's been low on kitten food for like 2 years. We have to constantly be buying it when we used to be able to rely on donations of canned wet kitten food. Now we have a sudden influx of wet food for all sorts of animals. The problem is - it's all the infected food. What kind of motherfucking asshat moron dickwads think it's A-FUCKING-OK to donate that sort of shit and expect the tax write-off? SERIOUSLY!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Then, the "donors" get really pissy when we won't accept the donation. Um, hello, we happen to love our animals - even if they aren't our "family" pets - just as much as we love our family pets. We're not going to feed them tainted food, you fucktards. Don't get mad at us and cause a scene when we turn your shit down, assholes.

Add to it that it looks like deaths are higher than reported and these people are even bigger dickheads.

About two months ago, we had a rash of cats and kittens die/have to be euthanized from kidney failure. Now we're wondering if it wasn't some sort of communicable disease like we thought it was and if it was this tainted food.

Then here's my personal rant about this as well - why is Eukanuba double what Authority (Petsmart's generic brand for those that don't know) is when it comes to price if they're produced at the same facility using the same products? That's complete and utter bullshit.

I wondered why my dog didn't really show a difference when I switched him off the Eukanuba to Authority 6 years ago and now I know why. They're the same fucking thing. I'm glad that I've been saving about 20 bucks a bag every couple of months instead of getting taken like that.

Maybe it's time that we start watching what happens to animal food, especially after the Mad Cow Disease shit that went down semi-recently. Then again, the rationale is who gives a fuck, they're just animals.

Yeah, we had someoen say that to us when we denied a donation of tainted shit. Only they said "who gives a fuck, it's not like anyone cares what happens to the animals anyway." Fuck. You.

So obviously my weekend was shit. In fact, whole week was shit. That promotion I've been hoping for? Yeah, don't think that'll be happening ever. But, instead of continuing on with listing out all the bullshit going on, how about some happy?

[livejournal.com profile] tbdnewsletter is a new newsletter for The Black Donnellys. I'm really honored to be the Thursday editor! This is going to be loads of fun!

[livejournal.com profile] kotor_holo is going strong with loads of KOTOR stuffs for the perusal. Oh, that reminds me that I have stuff to post but I'll make sure not to do it on a Tuesday so I don't worry about pimping myself.

[livejournal.com profile] slashfest opens for requests this coming weekend! YAYES!!! You all have thought of requests, right? Remember, any fandom, any pairing as long as it is slash! (and ok, no multiple requests for the same pairing) We're carrying over 297 requests from last round but that's ok because we have loads of talented people and there shall be such brilliant requests that no one will be able to resist them.

[livejournal.com profile] slash_friday has a new prompt and it's really really hot if I do say so myself. Possibly NSFW! You have until Friday to write something for it so go write! *shoos people*

I got my dogs groomed and will be posting photos of all of them coming up soon. I know you all are just squeeful for the doggie photos.

I've finished my [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen and my [livejournal.com profile] hpslashnotsmut assignments and sent both of them in. I was late (with the mods' blessings so with the extension, I was on time) and early for the former and the latter. Now, I just need to finish my bohemeth of a [livejournal.com profile] serpentinelion fic. It's looking fairly good so far but I'm having to watch to make sure it doesn't veer into crack while I'm not looking. It should be posted by the 1st as that's when it's due. I'm shooting for posting on Thursday or Saturday. (Not Friday because see above comment about pimping myself)

I have 5, count them, 5 stories at the almost done stage. I have no deadlines except the ones I choose after I finish my [livejournal.com profile] serpentinelion fic. Well, ok, I probably won't be able to resist a couple of the [livejournal.com profile] slashfest requests that are sure to be made.

Now that I've recounted my happy - give me yours! What have I missed?

I couldn't agree with you more about the pet food recalls! And donating tainted food and then making a fuss when it gets turned down????? What is WRONG with people????? That is so very not okay! >:/ I hope the rest of your animals are okay.

From: [identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com
Yeah, people really really suck. And we're now really watching for kidney failure and injecting fluids. Our "SCU" (second chance unit) is overwhelmed with animals right now, unfortunately.

But, the public has been fairly generous as well, once they heard about how low we are in food and how people are trying to donate the tainted stuff.

One guy, today, got the response about animal endangerment being a crime and was he sure he wanted to donate this. He gathered his shit and left and got hit up by the newscrew outside. It was brilliant.

How the heck are you, btw?

I can't believe how low people will really go sometimes. Yay for the newscrew, though! That's quite marvellous! :D That asshole.

I'm pretty good, thanks! :D How are you doing these days, this aside? My whole life is pretty much up in the air. It's kind of weird, but sort of exciting, too. :)

I'm tearing up about the whole pet food thing, dude. What.the.fuck. Anyone who knowingly donates infected food to the shelter should be prosecuted for animal endangerment. There's no excuse for that, at all. I'm almost shaking I'm so angry.

Those realtors are lower than low. I'm so sorry you got ripped off like that. The people in this world, man, sometimes I just don't know. *squish*

Date: 2007-03-27 03:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com
Yeah, it's just so depressingly awful that these people do this stuff.

Seeing your animal endangerment comment - we had one dude that got told about that and then when he went outside, there was a newscrew waiting for it. It rocked!

And yes, the realtors are assholes. We're going to attempt to break the contract tomorrow.

I guess you know how I feel about the pet food business. If they're so cavalier about the lives of creatures that can't talk - that are dependent upon us, then who says they'll have any higher regard for human life?

Honestly, I'm totally enraged by the Realtor thing. If I were you, I'd go talk with someone at the Better Business Bureau and get their behavior on record. YOu can't fix what happened on your Open House day, but hopefully it'll stop them from pulling something like that in the future -- because if YOU aren't going to stand for their shit, they may surmise that someone else might not either. That's about 12 shades of wrong.

And the donated animal food thing? I can't even imagine. That's just... seriously if I think about it too much there will be throwing of things.

Anyway, I want to add something lovely, because I can understand why you're upset.

Um. Seamus in a towel. Or low slung jeans. Does that help?

Assist-to-sell and help-u-sell, et al, are pretty scammish in most places that I've been, so I'm not surprised. (Disclaimer: my step-mom is a realtor and I used to work as a real estate assistant. My mom is a secretary for a realtor and my MIL used to be a realtor before she started teaching. So I'm biased, yeah.) It's one of those things where, if you're in the industry and you want to warn people, you can't because they don't want to hear it. Clients think you're just trying to not lose their business. But what often ends up happening is these Assist-a-sale places make a mess of things, costing the client more money, and then an actual realtor has to clean up the mess. The realtor and the client both end up doing more work than would have originally been necessary but neither party makes the profit that you would expect to make when you put that much work into something.

And omg the cat food! *cuddles poor kitties* That whole thinghas me so damn mad, I could spit nails. And people are trying to donate it to your shelter? ;ajskldjfaklsjf;klijjksdajf!!!!!

And sigh. I may have to check out slash fest this next time :)

See, these people were actually recommended by a "regular" realtor friend of mine which is why it's such a deep sense of betrayal on this.

We're breaking the contract tomorrow so then we'll be signing with a new realtor, getting a new listing and this guy has the number five sales in Tucson so I'm thinking he's a good guy :) *hopes*

Yeah, I like to think that people are thinking tax refund and not thinking murder. But, I doubt that's actually true.

and omg, yes please, check it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry you've been having such a shitty time *hugs*

I second the call to the BBB about the realtor.

I've already ranted on both my journals about the recall, so I'll spare you that, but I completely agree with you on the extra cost of food. Nutro dry food was one of our brands that we would buy, and it's much more expensive than something like Iams or Science Diet. What weirds me out most though, is their dry food comes from the Nutro plants, but their canned food seems to have been outsourced to Menu Foods. I wonder what other companies do this kind of thing.

We did call the BBB and file complaints there as well as with the different realtor associations about it.

I did see your rants! They're seriously just awful and to think that this was from possibly earlier than December and they did nothing? Why test it on animals when just doing a chemical test solved the issue? That pisses me off too!

Whatcha think of the prompt?

OMG your realtors! That's horrible hon :(

Re: the petfood recall - I wondered the exact same things. I've been feeding my indoor cats Iams for several years, under the mistaken belief it's a quality product. Between my three cats and the strays, I spend about $50 a month on cat food.

From stuff I've read on message boards lately, a LOT of people have had pets get ill and die from kidney failure, and it's been for a while, like since December. I don't think they could cover it up anymore.

I'm just so thankful I couldn't afford the canned Iams. I'm switching to something else this week.

I hope this week goes better for you! ♥

Yeah, hopefully they're gone tomorrow!

That's just crazy that it's been happening that long! It just sickens me that this was allowed to happen and now? That whole offering to reimburse medical costs with proof of eating by the animal? How do you prove that your animal ate that crap? What about the loss of the animal itself?

Thanks! *loves*

i completely agree with you on the pet food recalls. i can't even imagine someone being stupid enough to donate the tainted food. seriously... if they won't feed it to their pets, what the fucking hell do they think that a shelter would feed it to their animals?! seriously. people sometimes piss me off sooo much. i can't believe that these people even thought that it was okay. it makes me want to smack every one of them.

gah... reading that made me upset with people in general, but i'm glad you posted it. i wish there was a way that you could knock sense into people like this. people like that don't deserve to have pets.

i had a friend when i was younger that volunteered at a local shelter. i used to think that would be cool, but then i decided i couldn't do that. i'm someone who is constantly taking animals in, and that would be so hard for me to deal with all the time. much less the people out front. i give you a ton of props for being able to have a job like that... it's hard.

What the holy hell? The open house stuff...well that's crap. I can't believe there are realtors that actually do that...wait...actually I do. Most of them just want money. I don't know but I get iffy with realtors. When we were selling my house a few years back, open house for us was pretty shady. Our house was on the market for a year and the realtor basically didn't really do anything so we had to do the promoting. Mehhh. I'm so sorry about what happened though. *huggles* I hope things work out now though.

And the pet food thing! OMFG...seriously...animals have a right to live. I mean there's a reason you guys are taking care of them, so they can live, not die! Wow, people are complete morons these days. Bahhh.

Date: 2007-03-27 03:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com
Yeah, complete dicks, all around. Just from start to finish, they've been horrible. Thankfully, we won't wait a year before getting a new realtor because the contract will expire before then.

Yeah, people suck. Some people think that we just exist to euthanize animals and that we don't actually care. Can't tell you how many letters we get telling us to stop the senseless killing. Our euthanasia rate of adoptable animals is........ .0000001% yep, it's THAT low. They're just misinformed fucktards.

Ok, what those realtors did is unbelievably fucked up. I'm surprised you haven't gone and killed them for it. Regardless, I hope that fait befalls them.

Also, I cannot stand people who think like this of animals. Animals, pretty much, has been one of my #1 prioritis in life. I've volunteered at the Humane Society here, and am also working with Greenpeace and PETA. I think it's amazing that you work there, and I respect people like you - the ones who actually care for animals. I mean, I adopted my baby from the Humane Society and he's become one of the greatest things that's ever happened to me, and I only have dedicated people like you to thank for saving him and keeping him alive and well until we adopted him.
