Jan. 26th, 2007 10:30 amWe just put our house on the market the other day. Then, we cleaned and cleaned and purged and purged and painted and painted.
I have the steadiest hand in the family so I'm on "trim" duty... I get to paint the trim, the places where two colours meet, the ceiling line and anywhere else requires a steady hand. I don't believe in tape, I should probably mention that. I hate to tape as it takes for-fucking-ever to tape the crap and then when you pull the tape down, it sometimes takes your paint with it so you just have to redo the tape-and-paint routine again. So, no taping for me.
We had our first set of people come through the house today. Our realtor said they kept going on about the designer colours and wanting to know what interior design firm we used to do the house. Um, *waves*, that'd be me. I picked out all the colours and stuffs. So, that was a nice ego boost. Some of the colours are still strong colours - rich mango and deep navy and bright blue and lime green. There's also muted - white and tan and light brown and light light brown and off-white and creamy tan and *ick*. (can you tell that I like my bright colours and hate muted colours?)
Anyway, we were cleaning last night and I was moving a very large sheet of glass from an old entertainment center that died but I used the glass as a "free floating frame" on the wall over a large print. I decided that the glass might not look the greatest to show the house so I was shifting it from my bedroom to the garage.
As soon as I was in the garage... disaster struck. The glass didn't touch a sodding thing but it shattered in my hands. Luckily, it was safety glass so it shattered instead of turning into shards of glass. I don't think I've mentioned this but I go barefoot ALL the time. Like ALL the time (I use a chainsaw in bare feet as an example).
So, glass shatters for no reason and where does it all land? My bare feet. Here's where it's a blessing that it didn't turn into shards. I have about 30 gashes on my right foot and about 15 on my left. Then, my hands are knicked and dinkled from the glass as well. I have one cut that stretches across my arch from one side to the other that bled for like an hour.
Add to it that I get light headed when I see my own blood and, well, it was all I could do to stay on my feet long enough for my mum to get me out of the glass so I could pass out proper. Came to and I was already bandaged. I love my mum, she's really good about my blood squeamishness. I even was laid out on the sofa with a pillow under my head and a nice cool rag on my forehead. I love my mum *grins*.
Later that night, I picked out a small piece of glass from one of the cuts on my hand and almost passed out and then
It's actually kinda funny now that the crisis is averted. Didn't need stitches or anything so I'm very happy about that. Plus, now I don't have to pay to have the glass shipped to the new house.
I'm going to try to take a few pictures of the house as it currently is so that you all can see how amazing I am with the colour picking out skillz.
