My underwear and socks don't even make it into a drawer. They stay in the laundry basket. Sometimes the basket makes it to the closet, but generally it just stays on the bench at the end of my bed. :)
It is srsly disturbing. I mean, I sort my tshirts but it's more:
1.) Can I wear it to work? 2.) Do I wear it often but can't wear it to work? 3.) I wear it, right? 4.) Workout/painting/do not wear in public
But I definitely don't do it by color and shit let alone a rainbow thing.
I had a roommate way back when (and this is how I earned my nickname wook) that sorted my underwear, folded it and then arranged it in the drawer like a rainbow.
I have folded my underwear before, because it makes them take up less space in the drawer. But I don't normally do that. I don't even know if I have a "normally" for laundry. Sometimes it stays in the basket for weeks, sometimes it gets folded all nicely and put away the same day.
I like to change my sheets weekly but I usually don't. I sleep better when my sheets smell all pretty.
There is that. That's quite a logical reason for doing it.
I used to try to do it weekly but I felt like I was setting myself up for failure cause I kept missing it. So biweekly works for me. It helps that I'm not in bed all that often.
Laundry is only second to dishes for chores I truly dislike. I think because it NEVER ENDS! I love sheets and towels fresh from the dryer, but I hate dealing with it.
Okay, I said weekly, but sometimes it's every other. Even though I PREFER to do it weekly.
and while I don't fold undies or sort them by color, I DO sort them by... um, ratty/not-ratty? Like the ugly, menstrual days underwear goes in the back and I just pull it out when I need it. and that might have been tmi...
LOL - I do the ratty/not-ratty/period pants (yes, I call them period pants).
I had a friend of mine that was shocked that I had specific underwear for that time of the month. It's like, um, duh? She was appalled. Guess she's better at being a girl than I am? IDK. :P
i have a dusty backyard and usually the dogs are good about not coming up uninvited but sometimes not and sometimes i don't see how dirty they are
i have one drawer for work only tops, sweaters, and sleeveless shirts, one for not work tops and one drawer purely for solid and striped shirts. that is the one that is color coded.
i'm not the only user of clothes baskets in the house so i get grumped at if i leave them too long.
That thing is amazing. I know what I'm getting my sister for her birthday that's coming up. Thank you xabillion for that! My sister alphabetizes by color, for god's sake.
I sort my underwear by color, but it's more of an anti-sort. I arrange them so that no two pairs of the same color/print are next to each other. It looks more random that way.
I just shove 'em in there until they all fit. Sometimes, I'll reach in and "fluff" them so that the same pairs arent' stuck in the back but they still don't get folded or anything. My sister, on the other hand, is a freak of nature.
So I had to go back and answer yes and no for the colour sorting question - I sort all my socks by colour, since I only have either black or white. Same as underwear - white ones go in one pile, colours (including black) in another. I also occasionally redo my closet by colour.
This is all assuming the clothes leave the hamper at all :)
If you ever feel the need to sort someone else's closet, may I volunteer mine?
I just can't be bothered to sort the underwear or the socks. I only have black socks (cause I only wear them as part of my Fry's uniform) so they just go in a giant pile. The undies get shoved in the drawer until they fit.
Also, sheets get changed depending on the season and whether I have a regular partner or not. Right now I've been flying solo for a year and it's winter, so changing is sparse.
I like your sorting pattern. I hadn't even considered that. I sort of keep it sorted by wear (ie, ratty vs not ratty, similar to kaalee above).
Definitely what sort of usage/shenanigans is happening makes the sheet changing more often/less often. I've been using the same set of flannel sheets all winter so I've been washing them biweekly so that I don't forget. Otherwise, they could very well be on there for months and I wouldn't remember.
My mother always folded our undies, and I never ever ever understood it. It was one of the first (and only) housekeeping things from her that I did not only NOT adopt, but, like, constantly think about the waste of time it was. Just throw it all in the drawer already, lordy!
I now do my sheets once a week--mostly because the house renovation keeps everything so dusty. Before this lovely life-change, I did them about once every two weeks.
Hee, I'm similar. It's not like they're going to get wrinkled or something.
Ooh, yes! Good point on the sheet changing there. House renovations definitely require more often changing. I change every time I move furniture/dust because I don't want that in my bedding.
I don't sort my undies by color since my undies are pretty much all different multicolor designs or solid colors, and I don't actually have many that are the same color. Maybe a few colors that I have two of. But I do sort them by type/style. Um.... Why yes, I'm anal.
Naw, you're not anal. My sister sorts them, alphabetically, by color and style. Like pink is always before red and within pink, they're sorted by style.
Hence why I wondered what sort of behavior was "normal".
It's not so much that I sort my underwear by color, it's that I sort them by the grouping they came in. Although, that's been tossed out the window 'cause the previous four packages of undies I bought were in batches of three, but the package I just got last week was a batch of four, which totally does NOT work with how I have my underwear organized. *FACEPLANT*
As for sheets, I'd like to change them more often than I do (whenever they get too warm/not warm enough for the weather), but I have a loft bed and it's really hard to change the sheets. I resemble a monkey when I'm doing it, 'cause I'm climbing all over the damn thing, trying to get things tucked in.
(If I finally give in to the urge to change my sheets and blankets that I've been fighting for a month tomorrow, I'm totally blaming you. ;P)
This is interesting! I had to think about it a bit. I probably change my sheets every 4-6 weeks, but it should also be noted that I sleep in my own bed only about half of the time, because I'm on the road so much. I change them a lot more when I'm sick and in bed more often.
I don't fold my underwear, but my panties are stacked neatly in a drawer. They aren't organized by color on purpose, but tend to end up kinda that way because my loads of laundry are by color, so all the white panties end up together and all the pinks/purples/reds and all the blues/greens, etc. Once they get put into my suitcase though, they're not folded at all. Just shoved in.
So, what does this say about me? (other than that I am very obviously a longterm singleton and sleep in hotels 4 nights a week...) I don't know. :)
I used to be awful about sheet-washing, then decided to start the every-week cycle. Got a third set of sheets so even if I didn't get laundry done I'd at least swap the sheets on the bed. Having a kid now means changing the sheets weekly is an even better idea, so glad we were already in the habit.
I do sort socks and underwear, but into two categories each. Thongs and regular, athletic socks (all the same type anyway) and other. I will fold to save space if I have to, but think it's a waste of my time. If the drawer is that full it's probably time to purge the old stuff.
Occasionally I get this urge to straighten all my drawers (heh, it's punny) and I do fold and organize by color and even type. Mostly though, they're either chucked in or still in the dryer/basket.

And my sister switches out sheets weekly, at least. I do not even get that. How much fucking laundry is that?
