Summary: Dean wants to write Seamus.
Author's Notes:Unbeta'd. Set during DH. Also written for the
100quills prompt of .39 Comfort.
Dean wants to write to Seamus, tell him little stories about the rabbit that he saw yesterday or about the deer that was drinking from the brook when a stag came up and nudged her arse before both of them took off into the woods. He wants to tell Seamus about the way that he's finally figured out how to light a fire without causing a forest fire, the way that he's able to keep the fire banked to stay warm when the temperatures dip well below tolerable. He wants to tell Seamus about the way that his gut clenches in both hunger and fear, that the knot of fear is so tight that he can't distinguish between hunger and fear anymore, one's just as bad as the other and they're both always present.
He wants to write Seamus and tell him how much he misses the way that Seamus always rambles on and fills the silence so Dean's brain isn't forced to. He wants to tell him that it's too quiet out here with just him and the woods, the rabbits and the deer. It's too quiet and his brain won't stop worrying and thinking, filling in the dark blanks of where this is all bound to end up. He wants to tell Seamus that if he had this to do over, he'd take Seamus up on his offer to run with Dean, that they could share the tent and learn to bank the fire together. He wants to tell Seamus that if they went on the run together, they'd be able to keep one another warm.
He wants to write Seamus but the paper ran out about a month back. Besides, he wouldn't have a way to send it; the Snatchers had killed his owl two weeks before the paper ran out. Besides, by the time he'll get paper, maybe the fear will go away and Seamus won't need to hear about what a coward Dean is for shivering in fear and pretending it's the cold. Seamus doesn't really need to hear about the way that Dean startles every time a branch breaks in the forest or the way his heart races when an owl hoots in the middle of the night. Seamus doesn't need to hear about the way that he's stopped setting up the tent because the Snatchers are so close that he can't take the time to pack it up and run. No one needs to hear about any of it but he still wants to write to Seamus and tell him all the things going on in his head.
He wants Seamus to know just in case he doesn't get a chance to tell him in person.
As always, I'd love to hear what you thought.

Date: 2009-05-06 01:50 pm (UTC)I love this. I love that Dean thinks of Seamsu being the one who rambles but in this it is him who is filling the void.
