X-Men Origins: Wolverine Reaction (no spoilers from me) and some thoughts on x-men fandom

I had had every intention of being a good fangirl and holding off and waiting for the X-Men movie. BUT, then it got leaked, someone on my flist squeed and I caved. I admit it. I caved so fast that I reached the center of the earth before I took another breath, that's how far and deep and fast my cave went. (ok, come on, work with me here, my brain is mush)

OMG. OMG. OMG. OMG. I called elanorofcastile and the entire message was squee and giggles and OH MY GOD. She had to call me back just to figure out what the fuck I was talking about.

The only critical thing I could say is "needs moar Gambit" cause it totes should be X-Men Origins: Gambit :P.

GAH. I cannot wait to see the finished copy in the theatre. Now it's even harder to wait. GAH GAH GAH GAH GAH GAH OMG

Having said that, I think I've told this story before but I can't find the post so... here's how I came to slash fandom. See, I started out in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. There I abandoned my first WIP. As I was cruising ff.net in a desperate search for something other than work to do and I thought to myself "well, self, you like Gambit, look for fanfiction". I found an awesome story and it was labelled slash and I had no idea what that meant. Little did I know that i would be sucked into X-Men fandom and, from there, decide to look for Harry Potter and, baddabing baddaboom, here I am.

Wolverine/Gambit is, by far, my favorite pairing in X-Men. I love Bobby/John. I've read Beast/Bobby and Wolverine/Nightcrawler but, for me, I always come back to Wolverine/Gambit. They have such similar personalities and, yet, they're very different. Their backstories (all billion and one of them), their interactions, their attitudes, their powers, everything pulls me in and keeps me going back.

It's one of the few pairings that I'll give a bit of fanon a pass. For comicsverse slash, here is a fairly complete archive.

In canon, Gambit has multiple mutations. He has physical mutations - his eyes are red thus his nickname, Le Diable Blanc. He has, depending on interpretation, two "talents" - kinetic energy and "charm". The charm, in a lot of fanfiction, turns into empathy. Regardless of the empathy factor, he has three known mutations.

In fanon worlds, Remy(gambit) is abused on the streets, normally a street hustler and prostitute. There's plenty of stories where he isn't but that's the fanon characterization. Some I don't mind, some I like, most I hate.

What I don't love is the way that authors have a habit of feminizing Gambit. Dude. This guy is all man. He's a slick talking motherfucker that is totally badass. He blows shit up, he holds his own in fights with Wolverine, he's fucking awesome. Yet, authors have a habit of making him into a chick with a dick. Dude. :/ Not on.

Thus - it's hard to find good fanfiction out there with Wolverine/Gambit. I keep looking but, honestly, most of it is dreck where Remy is a cutter or a drug user or does some other emo kid activity. I get that he's had a rough life but what I don't get is where, in the actual canon, someone could possibly get cutter chick with a dick.

Merging canon with fanon, most fanfiction stories take place after Antarctica when the Gambit/Rogue ship died a thankful sad, much celebrated much mourned death. At least for a little bit. These stories normally involve a lot of hurt/comfort schmoop. Which annoys me to no end.

For those that are just getting started in X-Men fandom due to the Wolverine movie, there's a a brilliant Remy/Gambit fansite that will tell you almost everything you need to know about Le Diable Blanc in the comics.

Now that I've introduced Gambit, maybe I could tempt a few of you into writing and drawing Wolverine/Gambit. Plz?

Then again that's true of many X Men pairings, and I'm not sure why. The same happens in Wolerine/Cyclops, and I sit there trying to figure out how the man who's running the school for the Professor can be such a whiny 13 year old girl, because they don't just turn him into a chick but into a child as well.

OMG YES. Scott is an emo puppy just waiting for someone to rescue him. Even Wolverine is a little bitch just waiting for someone to break through his hardshell cause he totes cries himself to sleep every night that he doesn't get some sweet loving by the man of the author's choice.

I just want some really good Wolverine/Gambit X-Men fic after this movie. I don't think I'm asking a lot :(

Oh man. I've written one fic and I've already started another one based on the leaked movie. I'm so excited for this, you wouldn't believe. You totes need to get away with me.

When my husband was younger he was a big comic book fan and loved the X-Men. I should totally tell him about all the slashyness and then I'll convert him to the brilliance of slash. Hee! He saw a preview for the movie the other night and his total comic book nerd side came out. Saying how characters looked originally ect. I never thought I would care about comic books or find them interesting but ever since I've been married to him I have learned how cool they are. I also saw a thing the other day about X-Men and why they were created and ect, it was fairly cool.

Now that I know this about you I am convinced you will love Heroes, it's so comic booky! Also extremely slashy like uber slashy.

Watched Disk 1 of Season 1 of Heroes. OMG I LOVED HIRO SO MUCH OMG. And they left it at such a shitty place. I need disk 2 omg. I LOVE HIRO. Peter annoys me and his brother. OMG. WHAT A DOUCHE. IDK what's going on with the mirror chick but she's freaking me out too. Claire and her dad (I assume that he's Sylar?) are also weird. I like Claire but I want them to tell me what happened to the finger in the garbage disposal.

OMFG speaking of refraining from spoilers holy shit Heroes is going to blow you away. Ok Claire's dad one of the best fucking characters in the whole series. Sylar equally awesome. HIRO asdfjkl;asdfghjkl LOVE him but in some episodes he bothers me. But him and someone else ARE SO FREAKING SLASHY!!! They have true love for one another. Has Peter punched Nathan yet? OMG I love the Nathan Peter dynamic but it took awhile for it to grow on me. The very first episode is basically the entire season of spoilers in one episode. You think Nathan is a douche now wait till you are caught up to this season. I think every time he was in a scene I would say "You fucking bastard" or "Fuck you Nathan". However Adrian Pasdar so fucking hot AND he has his own youtube channel where he films all this behind the scene stuff. Want the link?

I've basically seen two episodes, methinks. The episode ended with Hiro teleporting off to somewhere as NYC blew up.

Drives a few of my friends insane as they want to shorten it to a nickname but I just love it too much. My family uses the first two letters as a nickname and I don't mind that so much. I've found friends there who published on ff.net and this girl that runs this site put everyone's name on it. you might even already be there if you've ever published.
