wook77Some fics I've read recently and enjoyed. I thought I'd rec a couple.
GIFT FOR ME!!! - back to when it all falls apart. It's Remus/Sirius. Plotty, angsty, canon compliant, brilliant characterisations, interesting play with tenses, back and forth scenes. It's really really well done. I really liked this because the author didn't shy away from showing Sirius as a complete prick. Too many times, Sirius is shown to be those OHWOEISMEFORIAMAVICTIMFOREVAH sort of characters. He's perfect and a victim all at the same time. This story didn't shy away from showing Sirius as human - warts and failings and greediness and selfishness all right there. It also doesn't pull any punches when it comes to Remus himself. Remus shows himself to have plenty of faults too.
There's this scene in the story. It has Remus and Sirius fighting in it, that whole betrayal before heading off to Azkaban thing. It's so very well done with Remus hexing off Sirius's tattoo of the four of them. That scene, more than the rest of the entire story, got me because there were so many different betrayals on so many different levels. There's the lack of trust between them, the way that Remus believes that Sirius is capable of killing off James and Lily. There's the revoking of Sirius's place within their group by removing the tattoo. There's the way that Sirius is stuck in Azkaban without even that tattoo to remind him (and oh god. What if that helped fuel the madness that came, that manic madness?). There's the way that Sirius attacks Remus, strangling him and going over the edge into violence. There's all of this stuff just boiling to the surface in this one moment. That fight scene. Oh man.
Get Down - another Remus/Sirius fic. Only this time - it's got artwork, too! I've had this fic open since it was posted because I can't quite wrap my head around just what sort of comment to leave. I've read it about 30 times but I just don't know what to say to encompass my OMGBESTTHINGEVAH reaction in any sort of rational manner. For now, you all need to go forth and read it and leave your own comments so that I can get mine figured out.
