My confession is that I wrote in Wedge Antilles/Tycho Celchu. I think you should all do the same. All those in favour?

I voted Saturday. It should shock no one that I voted for Obama/Biden and also voted no on Prop 102 (the Arizona proposal to amend the constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman all while instilling bigotry into a document that's meant to protect rights).

I waited two hours in line to vote and I was.... number 16. That's right, there were only 15 people in front of me and it took two hours. Good luck, you poor saps, that waited until today to vote.

I'm calling in to Fry's tonight. I've sort of already talked to the manager about it and said that this election is far too important for me to worry about straightening shelves for six bloody long hours. So she's cool with me not coming in.

My only big plug will be that we all vote 'no' on any of the various propositions that want to instill bigotry into the US. Please, vote no on Prop 8 in California, no on 102 in Arizona, no on 2 in Florida and no on *blanks* in Connecticut. A formal definition of marriage wouldn't have saved my parents marriage and I highly doubt it will save any marriage at all. Marriage is a secular term and, as such, should be blind to color, creed, sexual preference or gender.

Tonight, the juxtaposition of the reactions of the crowds to the two speeches finally made me believe that 'yes, we can'. While McCain's crowd boo'ed and hissed at every mention of Obama's name, Obama's crowd cheered John McCain. To me, that tells me that the candidate with the right people behind him won because John McCain ran such a dirty campaign and to cheer him, to almost revere him when he was such a vitriolic dickwad, that shows true class.

Now if only the bigots in Arizona hadn't won with the passing of Prop 102.

Proposition 8 in California is still up in the air.

Initiative 1 in Arkansas won which means that gay couples can't adopt kids.

Prop 2 in Florida passed which is the same as the AZ 102.

ETA: err, right. Sorry for the American-centric surely you know exactly what these ballot initiatives are assumption there. Serious apologies. All three have to deal with the ban on homosexual marriage. Prop 8 is, by far, the most serious one as gay marriage is allowed in CA until this bogus bullshit passes. /eta

Bigotry is alive and well but I have hope, a cautiously optimistic hope that Obama, as he's said he didn't support Prop 8 in CA might possibly work to repeal these laws on a federal level. That bigotry has no place in America.

I have hope that, instead of booing and hissing, digging in their heels and stubbornly clinging to the partisan bullshit that's plagued this country for the past 16 years, that those that supported John McCain are willing to reach across the aisle as much as the Obama supporters obviously are.

I'm also glad that I don't have to get married to [livejournal.com profile] anathema91 as it's cold in Canada and she hates my dogs. :P

I'm so overwhelmed right now that I'm crying and biting my lip and biting at my finger as I hold my fist to my mouth. I keep refreshing all the different websites because I don't believe it yet. I thought for sure that, yet again, an election would be stolen. Thank you, America. Thank you.
