alexia75’s prompt of Keywords: fireworks, firewood, plot. (thought I'd be seasonal) Dialogue: "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Every time they kissed, Harry felt as if fireworks were going off inside of him
Warnings: Semi-fluffy, Semi-Angst, I call it flangst.
Every time they kissed, Harry felt as if fireworks were going off inside of him. His focus narrowed until he forgot the outside world. The lips pressed against his, the tongue thrusting into his mouth, the hot and moist breath against his cheek from where their noses pressed against flesh, all of it set off that fireworks feeling.
Lifting a hand, he pushed his hand deep within all that white-blond hair until he touched scalp. Harry curled his fingers until they scratched the skin lightly. Unable to resist, Harry kept their lips pressed together while he gave the hair a slight tug and breath became scarce.
Finally breaking apart with a laugh, Harry kept his hand buried in Draco’s hair.
“You’re going to come away with handfuls of my hair if you don’t let go. I know how much you love my hair but I prefer it on my head.” The sardonic tone that used to drive Harry crazy with rage now made him laugh as he liberated his hand. Slowly, his hand brushed down Draco’s face until it rested on the buttons, still done up, on his shirt.
“What has gotten into you? Taken a happy pill, there, Harry?” The crackling of the firewood answered for Harry as he maintained eye contact while leisurely undoing those buttons. “Not going to answer? Whatever will the Weasleys say when they find out you have a drug habit?” Harry laughed in response.
“I’m allowed to be happy, Draco. You should try it sometime.” Draco’s snort was enough to make another happy laugh bubble out of Harry.
“What’s made you so happy?” Harry’s hands stilled on the buttons. The conversation was quickly turning serious. If Harry confessed how Draco made him happy, a simple kiss enough to set off fireworks, then Draco might react negatively. After all, they’d been enemies for so much longer than they’d been friends, let alone lovers.
“You.” The Sorting Hat wasn’t wrong when it put Harry in Gryffindor. Saying his secret out loud was one of the most foolhardy things he’d done in a long time. Harry’s gaze stayed focused on his hands, still gripping Draco’s shirt between them.
“Ahhh, the plot thickens. Do I?” Harry nodded. When a finger pushed his chin up, Harry thought about resisting for a moment but decided that “in for a knut, in for a galleon” and met Draco’s gaze. The Malfoy Mask was in place and Harry couldn’t tell if Draco was happy or upset, loving or hating at the moment.
“Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, right, Harry?” Again, Harry nodded as Draco quoted a line at him. Bracing himself for the rejection about to follow, Harry stared.
“Good thing you won’t lose, then, right?” For a long moment, Harry merely gawked as he absorbed what Draco said. A smile, triumphant and beautiful gradually spread across Draco’s face as the light finally dawned for Harry.
Leaning forward, Harry pressed his lips against Draco’s, fireworks erupting in his stomach and heart.
