Title: Finally
Author:
wook77
Pairing: H/D
Rating: PG
Word Count: 574
Summary: Harry fulfills his vow. Draco is freed. Wormtail is missing. It's a normal day in the world of Harry Potter.
A/N: Day 3 of my Fic Advent Calendar. A friend asked if I'd think of continuing two different works as I'd mentioned that it was a possibility. The first work is Harry's POV Discovery and the second is from Draco's POV Whisper in the Dark. I'd recommend reading the two of these first. Unbeta'd.
"What took you so long, Potter?" Draco sneered with a false bravado from his position on the bed. He put a scrap of parchment into the book he was reading and laid it on the small bedside table.
"What are you doing here, Malfoy?" Potter looked shocked to discover him and Draco was distinctly unimpressed.
"Waiting for the hero, of course. It's a shame that I ended up with you, instead. What did you do with Wormtail?" He was nervous, he could admit it to himself though he'd rather stay here than ever admit it to Potter.
He'd been frightened, truth be known, about staying here while waiting for the Dark Lord to decide what his fate was to be while that rat skittered about in the shadows, watching. Always watching.
Constantly guarding his thoughts, monitoring his dreams, all of it adding to the tension was wearing on his soul. Seeing Potter, though, relieved a bit of that tension, even if it was just momentary. The regression to familiar patterns from before he'd been pressed into service during the last year was comforting.
"None of your business." Potter took one last look around the room before leaving. Draco was enraged. Snatching up his wand, he rushed out of the room after Potter.
"You're not leaving here without me." It was a demand not a request and when Potter turned to look at him, he prided himself on the fact that his voice hadn't trembled and he looked nonchalant as he leaned against the doorjamb to the kitchen.
"I'm leaving, do what you want." Potter once more turned his back on Draco, ignoring him, dismissing him.
"You're not leaving me here." This time, a hint of pleading bled into his words.
"Fine, you can come with me but don't expect anything." Potter continued to open cupboard doors and peer into the sugar dish.
"What are you looking for?"
"Have you seen a cup, a little silver cup?" Potter gestured and Draco assumed he was showing the size of it.
"Can't say that I have, why? The Weasleys finally coming out about their poverty?" It was, in hindsight, the wrong thing to say. Suddenly, Potter was pressing him into the wall behind, his hand about Draco's throat, as he leaned in and snarled into his face.
"If you want anything from me at all, you'll bite your tongue and realize just how far the Malfoys have fallen. You're lower than low, your name means nothing anymore. The only reason," Potter slammed Draco against the wall to emphasize his point, "the only reason that I'd even consider not leaving you here to rot is because I know."
"Know what?" Draco's mind raced as he tried to figure out just what it was that Potter knew. He couldn't possibly know about the threat hanging over Draco's head or that his mum's life was hanging in the balance if it wasn't already gone. He couldn't know about Dumbledore and Draco's part in it, could he? He'd only know that Draco had gone with Snape after Snape had killed Dumbledore.
"I know everything. I found your little memento box and that's something we'll be discussing later. If you haven't seen a cup here, then I'm leaving. If you come along, be prepared to provide some answers." With that, Potter let go of Draco and walked out the door.
With a last look around his prison, Draco hurried out after him.
As always, I'd love to hear what you think. Concrit welcomed with open arms
