I'm kindasorta proud of living in Arizona right now.

Out of all the "Same Sex Marriage Ban" propositions out there, Arizona (seems) to be the only state that rejected it. Arizona: 1, Homophobes: 0

Then again, Arizona also re-elected John Kyl (we call him Heil Kyl at work. Mysoginistic homophobic asshole about on par with Santorum, IMHO). Arizona: 0, Republicans: 1

We elected Gabby Giffords (a Dem) to take over for Kolbe (openly gay Republican that retired) Arizona: 1, Republicans: 1

We re-elected Napolitano for Governor: Arizona: 2, Republicans: 1

We also get stuck with all kinds of legislation that deny loads of things to illegal immigrants (such as bail in basically any sort of accusation of crime, punitive damages in injury cases and some others) Arizona: 0, Xenophobes: 1

English is going to be the official language of Arizona: Arizona: 0, Xenophobes: 2

We passed a Humane Farms Proposition: Arizona: 1, Abusive Factory Farms: 0

It's a slim margin but it's a good day to be from Arizona.

I watched that last night - Yay for AZ!!!!
I was sorry to see Kyl go back, but you did realy well otherwise. The tide is beginning to turn on homophobia. People are realizing that this is not something that can be legislated out of existence.

We managed to defeat a parental notification bill and overwhelmingly pass a prescription drug bill that allows any Oregonian with no Rx drug coverage to be covered by the the State drug plan. That gives the State great negotiating power with drug companies.
We also took both chambers of our state house and retained our Democratic Governor!! A good day for Oregon, too!!

I really really dislike Kyl, can you tell?

I think what the "No on Prop 107" (the yuck on you you stupid homophobes) campaign did right is that they stressed that this didn't just affect same sex marriages. They showed that it affects domestic partnerships between a man and a woman. They also showed that it affects divorced parents.

YAYES for Oregon! Double YAYES! Oregon is love! Congrats!!!!

Openly gay Republican? I want to live there.

Not to mention: GRAND CANYON.

Yep, I'm moving, when I have the money.

He's one of the few Republicans I have ever voted for, I'll admit. Thankfully, he's been replaced by a woman that is pro-same sex marriages. I have high hopes for Gabby Giffords.

The Grand Canyon is pretty cool. There's also a bunch of other things like the Petrified Forest, Meteor Crater and the Painted Desert all right near the Grand Canyon... defintely a cool region. My best friend back in college was Navajo and I spent Thanksgiving on the Rez every year... it was an experience to share that holiday with Native Americans... a very cool experience.

Oooh, I forgot about Meteor Crater... *astronomy geek and writer of sci-fi*

My astronomy prof had a picture of that, an aerial. It was so very awesome.

And wow. That must have been amazing, very different.

*pokes with a stick* I've been trying to email you. Is my email not working?

go arizona! i'm especially glad about the rejection of the ban of gay marriage.

now, the english as official language decision, i assume that has to do with providing spanish-language education to potentially illegal immigrants, or no?

Arizona actually does have a law on the books (not an amendment to the state constitution) that bans same sex marriages, though :(. That's the part that sucks but hopefully, it'll get repealed the next set of elections. They're going to try to get petitions to get it repealed in the next election.

oh. but a law is easier to repeal than a constitutional amendment...

oh and on the official language thing... yeah, it will really affect English as a Second Language training for children. There's mention that teachers will no longer teach in both English and Spanish.

I know I shouldn't speak of a country where I don't even live, but I'm so glad Bush is losing power!!
