Summary: Harry and Draco attend a Christmas party for some very special guests.
A/N: Day 13 of the Fic Advent Calendar. Partially written from [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii's request for Draco in a Santa Hat. I'm very very sure that this isn't at all what she wanted. Given a quick lookover by [livejournal.com profile] anasuede

Every year, in the five years since the war ended, Draco found himself sitting in this small room. It might have been a good sized room at one point but, considering it was crowded with far too many people and furniture, it felt claustrophobic. He refused to consider that it might be the people that were in the room instead of the room itself.

It was also that he was forced to wear this silly, awful, embarrassing and horrendous hat that reminded him too much of those ridiculous things they all had worn back in Hogwarts. Last year, he'd tried to not wear it, had ranted and pouted, tried to use logic and, in the end, had given in and put the Santa hat on his head. The only thing that made the hat bearable was that Weasley was forced to wear one as well, the bright garish red of the hat clashing with his splotchy skin and accentuating the scar that drifted from ear to lip.

Harry wore one as well. When Draco thought of him, he searched the room until he spotted Harry across the room, sitting at a table surrounded by the celebrants. Harry looked happier than he did for most of the rest of the year. Draco couldn't quite understand why, when they walked down Diagon Alley or through Hogsmeade, Harry flinched away from the greetings, the 'thank you's and the congratulations. But here, in the middle of the residents of the Janus Thickey Ward, he seemed at home as the people petted his hair or held his hand. Every time Alice Longbottom handed him a sweets wrapper, Draco wondered why he didn't just throw it out instead of saving it in a box.

As he informed Gilderoy Lockhart for the thirtieth time that afternoon that, "no, thank you, I do not want your autograph," Draco watched as the Witch at the table with Harry and Weasley finally responded. She raised her head and said, quite plainly and succinctly, "Harry" before reaching out a hand. Harry's face switched from the indulgent grin to teary-eyed shock in a breath and Draco couldn't take his eyes away, even as Lockhart put a piece of paper in front of him and started signing while babbling away in his ear.

Draco's heart broke as Harry touched Hermione's hand and she withdrew, back into her own world where the crayons from her Muggle upbringing made her happy. She continued to draw streaks of red and green all over the paper, engulfing the people pictured in the drawing.

As always, I'd love to hear what you think

I'm glad that you enjoyed! Thanks so much for letting me know!

When I started writing, I only had a snapshot of Hermione in my head and went from there with the story.
