My New Laptop!
May. 4th, 2010 11:03 pmBought a new laptop today. I'm still obviously getting used to a new operating system, a larger keyboard and nothing on it.
But lemme tell you, I will never buy another computer from Best Buy Ever Again Ever. The people were rude and condescending (at one point, the computer sales person said to me "well, if you were willing to actually spend any sort of money to get a real laptop, we wouldn't be having this discussion"). Then there was the manager who snarked at me that she couldn't change the actual item to match what they'd advertised as the features and I was being "quite demanding" to think that I would get anything other than what they were handing me (well, when I bought it online, it had different features, you dumb fuckup so why don't you consider that?!). All in all, a very poor customer service experience.
That being said, I do enjoy the looks of it and I think I'll get used to Windows 7. I like the larger screen, even if it isn't as large as advertised on the website.
Anyone know of an easy way to move your stuff from your old laptop onto your new one that doesn't involve purchasing a cable?
I'm especially asking about iTunes because a.) moving all those damned music files and b.) my playlists that not only make listening enjoyable but are also the way that I get music on my iPhone (plus my apps!).
I do feel guilty, though, as the old laptop is sitting next to me and is rather forlorn :(. It was such a good laptop but then the keyboard died :(:(:(:(.
And, finally, continuing the spate of random babble about my new laptop - I've picked a name. My first laptop was the Millenium Falcon. My second (and the one staring at me right now) is The Ebon Hawk. This one is the The Pulsar Skate. Oh Wedge Antilles, you are the love of my life.

Date: 2010-05-05 06:23 am (UTC)While you've gone bigger, I've gone smaller. I replaced my laptop with a netbook - and this time, not a Mac. This one is a little Linux box that is also a touchscreen tablet. the keyboard and screen have separate batteries and can be taken apart.
I'll keep that in mind about Best Buy. Never tried to buy anything there.
(Damn, we're GEEEKS!!!)

Date: 2010-05-05 02:16 pm (UTC)Also, I love that you named her the Falcon! Think how many awesome lines from the movies you'll be able to use in day to day life? Hear me, baby? Hold together! and You've never heard of the Millenium Falcon? She made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs! She's fast enough for you, old man. So much fun!

Date: 2010-05-09 01:23 am (UTC)I tried out a netbook but it's just too small for me. I like to watch movies and shit on my laptop and you just can't do that enjoyably on a netbook. I'm very jealous of the touchscreen, though. I do love me some touchscreen action.
I'm just really annoyed about the Best Buy thing. So IDK about purchasing from them in the future.
<3 we really are :D

Date: 2010-05-09 01:25 am (UTC)I'm just really not wanting to lose the playlists. They're freaking hard to resetup and I really do not want to have to do that.
Happy belated, btw!

Date: 2010-05-09 01:28 am (UTC)This one is quite lovely, though, now that I'm basically over the disappointment of the difference on features. They keyboard is amazing and the screen really is awesome. Plus, it's fast to respond and handles multiple tasks well :D

Date: 2010-05-09 01:31 am (UTC)But yeah, I judge the kids too. I'm so tired of customer service. I know how to give good customer service and I expect others to do the same. It's not that hard. And snapping at me that it's a typo and typos happen doesn't make the snide tone any better.
And hee, this one is the Pulsar Skate. The first one was the Millenium Falcon. Poor thing was a reformatted laptop from my previous employer. It was 8 years old by the end and had travelled crosscountry at least 15 times. I would totally tap its case and tell it to hold together.
