Bought a new laptop today. I'm still obviously getting used to a new operating system, a larger keyboard and nothing on it.

But lemme tell you, I will never buy another computer from Best Buy Ever Again Ever. The people were rude and condescending (at one point, the computer sales person said to me "well, if you were willing to actually spend any sort of money to get a real laptop, we wouldn't be having this discussion"). Then there was the manager who snarked at me that she couldn't change the actual item to match what they'd advertised as the features and I was being "quite demanding" to think that I would get anything other than what they were handing me (well, when I bought it online, it had different features, you dumb fuckup so why don't you consider that?!). All in all, a very poor customer service experience.

That being said, I do enjoy the looks of it and I think I'll get used to Windows 7. I like the larger screen, even if it isn't as large as advertised on the website.

Anyone know of an easy way to move your stuff from your old laptop onto your new one that doesn't involve purchasing a cable?

I'm especially asking about iTunes because a.) moving all those damned music files and b.) my playlists that not only make listening enjoyable but are also the way that I get music on my iPhone (plus my apps!).

I do feel guilty, though, as the old laptop is sitting next to me and is rather forlorn :(. It was such a good laptop but then the keyboard died :(:(:(:(.

And, finally, continuing the spate of random babble about my new laptop - I've picked a name. My first laptop was the Millenium Falcon. My second (and the one staring at me right now) is The Ebon Hawk. This one is the The Pulsar Skate. Oh Wedge Antilles, you are the love of my life.

I could help you if you had a Mac. But there must be a PC equivalent of a program I have for my Mac called "iPod Rip" that copies your music from your iPod onto your computer (playlists as well). That's the only way I know to transfer the music with the playlists.

While you've gone bigger, I've gone smaller. I replaced my laptop with a netbook - and this time, not a Mac. This one is a little Linux box that is also a touchscreen tablet. the keyboard and screen have separate batteries and can be taken apart.

I'll keep that in mind about Best Buy. Never tried to buy anything there.

(Damn, we're GEEEKS!!!)

My suggestion for your music is to get an external hard drive to serve as the go-between.... it's better for backing up purposes anyway. When you open iTunes, go to preferences, and advanced, and just change the file path where your music gets organized. It'll ask you if you want to apply this change to your entire music library, and if you say yes, it'll apply that filepath to all your music, and you'll be all set.

This is assuming you don't just transfer it all over and then add it to your library anyway, ha.

Best Buy for computers? Never again. I was looking for a laptop one day and was asking the salesperson a lot of questions, including one about a 10 percent off coupon I received in the mail. Hey, 60 bucks is 60 bucks, man :P Stepped away, and my friend, who was still lingering in that section, overheard the salesperson and some co-worker bitch talking shit about me. Apparently, I was an idiot to the salesperson. I went back to complain the next day about this to the manager, and supposedly they were both written up. Yes, they are completely rude in the computer dept. Never again.

I bought a netbook online on black friday. It was for instore pickup and of course, they ran out. I spent 3 days trying to get ahold of customer service and it was only by calling the local store and CRYING- did I finally find out that they were out, would continue to be out and they didn't know when I would get my money back. It took 3 weeks for them to credit my debit card.
I bought my laptop somewhere else(actually glad I went with the laptop, not netbook) and will never deal with them again for anything!

BAH! For lousy customer service experience! D: Best Buy is no good like that. And, as someone who bites her tongue and answers all matter of insanely stupid questions with a smile and politeness, I rather judge them for not being able to do the same. It's the job, kids. Step it the fuck up. You can roll your eyes in the break room and curse at the houseplants when you get home.

Also, I love that you named her the Falcon! Think how many awesome lines from the movies you'll be able to use in day to day life? Hear me, baby? Hold together! and You've never heard of the Millenium Falcon? She made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs! She's fast enough for you, old man. So much fun!

I think there is a program. Or at least a cable but i sort of wanted to be cheap and not spend any money on it at all.

I tried out a netbook but it's just too small for me. I like to watch movies and shit on my laptop and you just can't do that enjoyably on a netbook. I'm very jealous of the touchscreen, though. I do love me some touchscreen action.

I'm just really annoyed about the Best Buy thing. So IDK about purchasing from them in the future.

<3 we really are :D

Yah, that geek squad is beyond useless. They're just a joke. I paid 40 bucks for them to clean my computer and they totally said they did except I opened up one of hte areas they supposedly cleaned and it was filthy.

LMFAO! I knew you would get the names! I'm just so happy to have found another kickass cool ship to name my laptop after. My cellphone is T3-M4 :D

I have an external so I'll just have to try it!

I'm just really not wanting to lose the playlists. They're freaking hard to resetup and I really do not want to have to do that.

Happy belated, btw!

Definitely! The new laptop continues to be shiny but the mouse touchpad is annoying the crap out of me. However, I'm liking a lot of the features and the keyboard is a dream.

Exactly, oh man. Those people are fucking ridiculous. They're so snide and condescending. I really wanted to tell the kid that I'd been programming on computers longer than he'd been alive but I didn't. I just decided to call customer care, instead. I'm getting a voucher for a deal online but I shan't be using it on computer stuff. I'll probably buy a few xbox games or something. Never again for a computer.

This one is quite lovely, though, now that I'm basically over the disappointment of the difference on features. They keyboard is amazing and the screen really is awesome. Plus, it's fast to respond and handles multiple tasks well :D

Oh JESUS are you kidding!? What a bunch of computer FAIL! You've just cemented my resolution to not buy another computer from them. I cannot believe they held on to your money that long. So freaking disgusting that they did that, especially as it was your debit!

<3 Yeah, they're awful with it. BTW - I thought of you on my flight recently. The flight attendants were quite lovely. I flew AirTran. But omg, the seats were so teeny.

But yeah, I judge the kids too. I'm so tired of customer service. I know how to give good customer service and I expect others to do the same. It's not that hard. And snapping at me that it's a typo and typos happen doesn't make the snide tone any better.

And hee, this one is the Pulsar Skate. The first one was the Millenium Falcon. Poor thing was a reformatted laptop from my previous employer. It was 8 years old by the end and had travelled crosscountry at least 15 times. I would totally tap its case and tell it to hold together.

When I went to their online forum- I discovered that this happened to ALOT of people AND they were also doing stuff like installing software and then telling people that since the software was already installed they would be paying the extra price, etc. Also- the forum said the stores were doing things like holding back the cheap laptops/netbooks(This WAS black friday remember) for employees and employees families- People would show up after checking online and the store didn't have the stuff. BB thinks that because they dominate the industry they can get away with that shit. They will end up like blockbuster.

Hee! I like your naming theme. Mine is mythology - my pc started as pandora because when you open the box you let all the bad things escape, and my laptop is Hyacinth (she insisted on it). My iPhone started out as Effy but that quickly became Iphigenia. I find the smaller the piece of technology, the more unwieldy of a name I like to give it.
