Hi! I'm still rather giddy over the whole Star Trek thing. I highly doubt that's going away.

I cleaned up my flist some. Removed a few communities, defriended a couple of wanky h0rs and an entitlement h0r or three. All in all, I think the new alignment of the flist shall make me happier.

My evil plan has been discovered, by the way. Last year, I killed fests. This year, I've done my best to kill fandom. What those plucky girl detectives don't know is that next year, I attempt to kill the internet. It's all part of my plan to punish Al Gore for causing global warming :(.

I sort of accidentally overdrew my checking account. See, I forgot that I'd been responsible and paid all my bills early. So I hit the panic stage on Tuesday, paid them all AGAIN on Wednesday and overdrew my account. God, I'm a moron, sometimes. I need to remember when I've been responsible or I will never get to kill the internet.

I have these random thinkythoughts on how I ship a certain set of tropes, not so much the actual characters. Like - I love best friends that fall in love. I love snarky dialogue. I love interesting backgrounds. I love well-developed friendships that are so intimate that it's a struggle to make them more. Do you find yourself shipping tropes moreso than characters or is it just the characters?

Cause I've noticed that the H/D shippers on my flist gravitate towards the Kirk/Spock where there's still some sort of rivalry there. I like the Kirk/Spock, don't get me wrong, but god do I love the friends-into-more Kirk/McCoy (or McCoy/Kirk).

Also - when did fandom stop putting the "top" partner first? *shakes cane* You kids get off my lawn!

I had no idea you were the evil mastermind behind EVERYTHING! *shakes fist* Are you to blame for the Phils dismissal season so far too?

I'm well on my way. I am a one-woman INTERNET WRECKING MACHINE!

ILU2.

I really do need to remember when I've been responsible. This stupidity cost me 90 bucks in overdraft fees and 900 bucks in overpaid bills that I can't recoup. I can apply some of it to future payments (like, my cell phone bill is now paid up for two months) but some of it just got sucked into the ether (like my student loans where it got applied to the end of my loan, not my next payment).

LMAO.

Glad I'm still around. Also, yes, I ship tropes and I'm very well aware of it. :D

hey hey! no killing the internet until i get bored with it.

Do you find yourself shipping tropes moreso than characters or is it just the characters?

i've shipped everything from best friends, to enemies to people who barely interact, so it's safe to say that it's the characters. :p

I am. I admit it. There were clues, no one saw them along the way. It was very sad. How can I be an evil overlord with a long dissertation on my evil plans if no one is paying attention?

And duh on the Phils thing. Why do you think the Pens are still in the playoffs? If the Pirates were any good, I'd be all over that. As it is, I'm left with no one to support in baseball.

Hee! So what are your favorite tropes to ship?

Crap. Well, I guess I can hold off on killing the internet for awhile. But just cause you asked.

Sweet! I'm always curious :D. It's nice to consider outside viewpoints :D

Pretty much the same as yours, actually. It explains so much, doesn't it?

I've got the "best friends becoming more" and the "two people who were thrown together and have awesome banter and loads of UST becoming partners and beffies and then *together*" and the twist on the former which is the "been friends our whole freaking lives and didn't realize we've been married since we were like, 10" etc. etc.

But, really, if you're going with Campbell, there are only so many guises our characters can take and only so many way those characters can play out on the screen, yes? As I said to my friend, no one is telling an original story, they're telling old stories in original ways.

When I write, I know I'm not doing anything new, but I *like* those stories and the things they say about us as people and the hope they offer me, so I tell them again and again, and I know I don't do it particularly well either, but there you go.

I need to finish reading Teacup. Now there was a story that made my heart hurt...and made it happy too. :D Stupid RL and stupid not having of a computer.

I think... (urgh, you made me think in the morning!) I think that I mostly ship characters, but then I also anti-ship tropes. *g* I can't remember a single pairing where the characters are enemies or hate each other in canon that I haven't disliked and actively non-read.

I gravitate towards pairings where the characters are friends (so I can develop it into more) or there's a difference in power between them along with a huge amount of respect (at least from one of them). Um. I do ship tropes when I break it down like this, don't I? :D

(I've written a lot of other things for exchanges and challenges, though.)

Edited also: pls not to be killing the Internets? I am using it. ;)

It really does <3.

IDK that I entirely buy the whole Campbell thing but I think that's more due to my unfamiliarity with the entire concept and his words on it than any stubborn "I'm a unique and speshul snowflake" tendencies. (Because I am a unique and speshul snowflake LOL)

Exactly! I like the stories I write. They make me happy.

<3 I'll be patient! You need a more relaxed RL, though, gotta say <3

Eek! I would apologize but I like how it adds to the discussion on shipping tropes versus characters so I shan't.

(also, random insertion, RENJI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

It's probably a good mixture of both, then. After thinking about it a bit more (and it's 130 in the morning and I need to go to bed as I have to be up in 4 hours GAH darn you insomnia), I think I ship both. Like - I've read the BFF thing in other fandoms and simply wasn't attracted at all.

Oh man, exchanges and challenges are separate beasts from other writings. I always like a challenge, though, so that's probably why I think that. I always volunteer for like Voldemort/Blaise Zabini or other characters no one else would write.

I'll hold off on killing the internets cause you asked nicely. My evil plan shall have to wait. I don't make a very good Lord of the Sith, do I?

Icon has nothing to do with the babble above. I chose it as it's the closest one I have to relate to yours :/. I need a Renji icon or five.

Too late! As everyone knows, [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge kills the internet every time he goes camping. You'll have to think of something shiny, new and original to break.

Perhaps you'll have to take up the habit of stealing sweets from small children, and poking cute puppies with sticks.

Seriously, lady, killing the net is not a good thing.

Yeah, I think I tend to ship tropes. If by tropes, you mean seriously emotionally retarded idiotic boys who border on psychotic.

Proof: Snarry (emotionally retarded--can by borderline psychotic) Kubota/Tokito (So emotionally retarded, Kubota definitely is a sociopath with all the murdering people and stuff) Soubi/Ritsuka (emotionally retarded and Soubi is a twenty year old man asking a twelve year old boy to "take" him.) Ryuk/Light (Ryuk is death god and Light is a sociopathic killer, nuff said). And it goes on.

Ooh, yes to the tropes thing! Except I'm too broad and can go USTy enemies and best friends, whoops. Now that you mention it, though, I do seem to be seeing a lot of R/S folks writing Kirk/McCoy these days... :)

Also - when did fandom stop putting the "top" partner first? *shakes cane* You kids get off my lawn!

Nooooo. Really? I've never done that! I put them the way their names sound best. To... me. :) I remember a discussion on this a few years ago, and got worried, and then forgot to change the way I do stuff. I've been misleading an awful lot of top!Snape fen over the years, then. :)
