Thanks to everyone with the ideas on the last post. oconel and coffeejunkii were able to recover about 500 words of it which were scattered throughout the 4k I lost. Then, add in the recovery software that dream_wia_dream suggested and omg, I got back about 750 words! Basically - it gave me an outline that allowed me to write 4500 words today so I'm actually ahead of where I was. I'm still at 5kish more to go.

I'm really glad that this fic has me going back and forth so much previous to this latest setback as I'd uploaded a draft onto googledocs to share with a few people to get their opinions. (which I'd forgotten for quite a bit last night until someone virtually slapped my to get me to calm down and then I realised) So, full speed ahead and possibly Very Long h/d next week. I think I can finish this sucker (rough draft) tomorrow at work. Then, beta it this weekend and baddabingbaddaboom, fic!

Speaking of fic, I've also written about 2k of a slashfest claim for miz_thang88 but it isn't happy at all, which fits with my current mood.

My computer is no longer acting like it has internet. It dials out but never connects to the dial-up network. When I go to "borrow" the one wireless network around here, it doesn't connect properly either... so "The Ebon Hawk" will be going to Best Buy tomorrow to see if they can fix it. I've checked the memory, the modem and program problems and none of it seems to have any issues. Am currently on my mum's computer which means no reading fic as I don't want the URLs for mum to find as I can't wipe her history.

my mum sent a random email to the mortgage company asking what all she needed to bring to closing on the 22nd of may for the new house. The lady responded back with how we needed 10% down payment in cash and how it was 37k. My mum went bwa? and inquired how it went from 28k to 37k for 10%. It seems that KBHomes randomly jacked up the price by 90k. Mum went, nope, no way, here's my contract. So, that's all up in the air which is ok because we haven't really had a serious offer on the house we're currently in. As it is, we were supposed to move in mid-June but it's looking like that might not happen.

Im still pressing for hi-speed regardless as they just built the towers down here.

Anyway - away from wibbling and on to good news that starts out bad. I went to the financial aid counseling session at that design school and they were willing to do me the very nice favor of giving me a loan for 35k of my school (as I only have 13k left of student loans to borrow on) and they'd give me the absolutely fantastic interest rate of 11%. Plus! If I acted within the next week, my monthly payments would only be $50! I sent them the letter today telling them that I am not interested and have incurred no costs with their school. (as janicechess said - it's a no-brainer. As in... if I had no brain, I'd jump at the chance.

However, after talking to my mum, she's encouraged me to go back to University of Arizona and see what I could do there. I had my initial counseling session (and will have another next tuesday plus another one in a couple of weeks). Basically, I can get a bachelor's degree in less than 2 years for..... 10k. Which I can borrow as student loans. Which means that I don't have to pay out of pocket right away. After the two more counseling sessions (which will be a breeze and are basically me saying, yes, I do want to go back to school mkthx!), I will be a Wildcat one more time. In less than 2 years, I will finally have my bachelors in Political Science and History. No fucking clue what I'm going to do with this but I'm going to talk to a few friends about what Law School is like (you, I'm looking at you, darnit! Get on gmail chat during the day, darnit!!!!). So it looks like school is going right even if the rest of my life seems very stressful.

Wanna know what's beautiful? My userinfo. yodels got me a beautiful tree and janicechess got me a shamrock. I have the best flist ever.

See, that's what I love about googledocs. It's shit for actual writing, but fantastic as a back up for fics in progress. My computers have a tendency to die sudden deaths on a periodic basis, so now I've got virtually everything important saved somewhere online.

I'm so glad you got your fic back. I feel sick whenever I hear about someone losing their work.

oh, yay. I'm so glad that one of those recovery programs worked at least a little bit. I know how frustrating it can be to lose something you've put sooo much into.
