As for the kenseikan, they shatter during the fight with Ichigo, and they sort of... splinter! So neither metal nor papier-mache, but possibly wood of some kind... or they might even be ceramic! :O
and she's just a Philistine. Byakuya would go all "Chire, Senbonzakura" on her ass for it, but alas, he's otherwise engaged with Renji ATM.
