Halloween

I'm going to need a beta for a fic by the end of the week. Who's available? Star Trek, Kirk/McCoy. I'm still writing it but it'll prolly be in the 5-10k range.

Still sick. My insurance kicks back in today so I'm going to try to go to the doctor's tomorrow.

I'm sort of doing NaNoWriMo. Was thinking of doing NaBloPoMo. IDK what I'd talk about but I figure I have enough fic backlog to post that I might be able to do it. We'll see. The NaNoWriMo project is the bakery AU that I'm cowriting with [livejournal.com profile] elanorofcastile which is, right now, titled "I Knead You (A Bakery AU)". Cause, lol. I'm also working on a WWI AU based off a drabble I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] bridge2sickbay.

I feel tainted but I'm sort of in love with the New Moon Soundtrack. GOD, that Editors song. Srsly. People. It's fucking amazing. (who was it at Azkatraz that said that when they hear the Editors, they think of me?)

We hired a new person at work to take the dumbass' position. The new person is AWESOME, so far. She's already further, a week in, than Dumbass was after over a month. I'm thinking I'll regain a bit of breathing room at work again.

I'm stalking [livejournal.com profile] yuletide sign-ups. I keep refreshing my flist to see if sign-ups have opened yet. I really want to write Green Street Hooligans or Four Brothers. Or The Departed. Or Boondock Saints (which, don't get me started on the rant about how BDS2 isn't playing in the fucking state of Arizona).

We had fewer trick-or-treaters this year than we did last year and we have like 50 new houses around. I'm sort of disappointed. We only had about 150 when we had 170 last year and were expecting about 250 this year. But there were a bunch of kids that were dressed up as Jango Fett, Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. Only one of the kids recognized my Princess Leia hair. One of the Anakin's was shocked that i knew who he was and when I touched my Leia hair and went "well, duh, Leia hair here" he goes "o.O Who's Leia?". Which, yanno, fail. I just lolled. His dad looked embarrassed. I'm hoping someone is going to learn how awesome the Original Trilogy is. We also had a Storm Shadow who was shocked that I knew who he was. We geeked out over GI Joe for about 10 minutes until his mum goes "come on, there's more candy to be had!" and he goes "so? She knows GI Joe, mom, I'm going to marry her" which, lol. He was maybe 6. I had to give my future husband extra candy. It was a moral obligation.

There was also a Gambit, a Wolverine, a Cyclops, a Jean Grey and a Sabretooth (complete with bushy blond hair) trick-or-treating together.

I think Halloween rewards the nerds :D.

We had the coolest homemade robot out of cardboard boxes. Hands down, that was my favorite costume. The little girl looked so happy to be in the costume and went on and on about how her mum made it for her and she was supposed to be a pink version of the robot from Lost in Space (which, I didn't get :( so maybe I'm not as nerdy as I thought) and her basket matched! It was a cardboard box with a homemade handle! All of it was spraypainted pink. So AWESOME.

I wish more kids had homemade costumes, not that I minded the Star Wars costumes or anything. But homemade costumes remind me of when I was a little kid and my mum dressed me up as my own birthday party and my sister as a bundle of grapes. Or homemade dog costumes with mum-painted faces and spots while she pinned a tail on my leotard and made me wear thick tights and ballet shoes. We'd get homemade fudge and popcorn balls from the neighbors. Storebought candy was a rare treat. Then again, we lived way out in the middle of the country and would have to be driven from house to house because it was sometimes a mile or two between houses with half-mile long driveways. I wish the whole "retro" movement would go towards homemade costumes, too, instead of just raping my childhood to make another buck.

I went as Ensign Pricess Leia Uhura, communications officer on the USS Farragut. I had zombie make-up on and was, obviously, dead. I had a rocking lightsabre, phaser and Han Solo's blaster. I also got to rock my knee-high boots. So much fun! Alas, there were no little Kirks, McCoys or Spocks in my neighborhood. If I ever feel better about the photos, I'll post 'em. As it is, omg, wideload :(.
