Week in the Life - Day 3
Jul. 2nd, 2008 11:31 amDay 1
Day 2
Our bridge supports down here are sometimes rather lovely. This is the one under Miracle Mile. (yes, it's really called that and yes, it's where the strip clubs are)

More commuting photos. I spend over 2 hours a day in my car.

Road construction. Somehow - it was a really great idea to close down I-10 so that you can neither exit nor enter the highway for a huge stretch. Pee before you hit Tucson :/

I don't even know why I took this one. More mountains.

Cool ass sculptures on the campus mall.

I'm in love with hair scarfs. I own more hair scarfs than knickers.

Date: 2008-07-02 06:50 pm (UTC)I miss Tucson. Seriously never thought that'd happen. Am considering moving to that area, only my parents are there, and who wants to live near their parents?
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 07:05 pm (UTC)o.O Really? For really realz? Dude. You come out here and I'll prolly stalk you.
And, err, I live with my mum so I'm a bit biased on the whole "near the parents" thing, methinks :D

Date: 2008-07-02 07:10 pm (UTC)But seeing as I live with a family that treats me like an adopted big sis to the daughter and an adopted lil sis to the mom, I can't say I'm not still in a fold, so to speak. I just can't be with my parents. Too New Agey, and I'm too Christian, as it were.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:13 pm (UTC)Oro Valley? I'm down in Sahuarita but I'm sure we can find a middle ground! We must get together! I'll be in Chicago and then San Diego from the 5th through the 17th, though. I hope those aren't the dates you'll be in town!

Date: 2008-07-02 07:17 pm (UTC)And can I be nosey and ask where in PA? (am from PA)
Cheap is good. I found a bus to take me from Boston to NYC for 2 dollars. Then from NYC to philly for another 2 bucks. Which reminds me that i need to book like now.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:20 pm (UTC)I grew up in the Gettysburg area, bro now lives near Lebanon. So, you know, the South Central region, full of farms and rednecks :D You said Camp Hill, right?
Dude O_O I couldn't even get from Harrisburg to Reading for that little.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 07:21 pm (UTC)INORITE? It's a new busline and it is brilliant. I'm so in love with it. I was going to rent a car but a.) it's more expensive and b.) gas and c.) driving in Manhattan.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:22 pm (UTC)Is it East Coast only, or does it exist elsewhere? *considers over AMTRAK*
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 07:26 pm (UTC)Where are you at?
And it's only the east coast. It's called bart/barq (I cannot remember off the top of my head and it's not in my bookmarks when I'm "sneakeh".)

Date: 2008-07-02 07:31 pm (UTC)I'm in Orange County, CA. And no, I don't really love it here :) Wouldn't have come out here if not for school, and if I don't graduate in a year or so, I'm moving on.
Hmm. Sad. Still, gave me more options to consider travelwise. I really hate AMTRAK, but if a bus line is cheaper...

Date: 2008-07-02 07:34 pm (UTC)How close are you to Knotsberry Farms?
Amtrak is ok but... yeah, cheap transpo is definitely the way to go.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:41 pm (UTC)Is it fun?

Date: 2008-07-02 07:50 pm (UTC)Knotts, however. Its the best kept secret of SoCal. Really. There's a great old wooden coaster. The Excellerator, though, that'll put your stomach at your feet. Love Knotts. Might have to plan a visit when a friend comes out in August.

Date: 2008-07-02 10:49 pm (UTC)And dude. Seriously. I cleared it with her. She doesn't ride coasters so I'd be riding them by myself. So if you'd want to, it's free and clear and seriously meant wholeheartedly!
And hee! DEFINITELY on the having fun thing here! We'll totes do that!

Date: 2008-07-02 10:51 pm (UTC)Not sure where you wanted to stay, but you might try Oceanside? A bit north of SD, but the LaQuina Inn there comes highly recommended (see Eddie Izzard oops/wedding story on LJ).
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 10:53 pm (UTC)I love Oceanside. My sister was stationed at Camp Pendleton but it's like 45 minutes north but if that's what we can get - that's what we can get :D.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:19 pm (UTC)Besides - the fandom is so wanky that it makes HP seem polite and tame.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:25 pm (UTC)There seems to be no qualms with being a rabid JPC shipper and trolling the JPK forums (like the ones literally labelled "John Paul/Kieron") and going on about how dumb JPK is and how they're destined to be ripped asunder and how the "sunset ending" is the only way to go and how JP is only with Kieron to make him feel better after leaving Craig at the airport and yaddayaddayadda. Like - John Paul can't move beyond this relationship that ended 10 months ago.
There's all this passive aggressive wanking - like "you're being mean to me and I'm entitled to my opinion" shit when they're trolling a forum. I cannot imagine a H/D shipper going into a Snarry ship comm and saying that the relationship was obviously doomed and recounting how awful Snarry is compared to H/D. The wank that would follow would be epic.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:32 pm (UTC)It's only a ship. I just don't get the extreme attachment. I did a bit of soul searching going into DH about what I would do if one of my faves died and I realized that I'd just keep on keeping on even if it had been Harry, Draco, Colin, Dean or Seamus. When it was Colin, I wept but then I moved on.
I think we should send them and the rabid JPC people that way :/ - make it an international agreement. A Coalition of the Wanky, if you will...
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 07:37 pm (UTC)Coalition of the Wanky. I like. Armed with their ship manifesto's to beat the enemy over the head, assuming they don't start infighting, lol.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:39 pm (UTC)That Regulus thing, I think we talked about, right? My theory that she did it so he could show off to Sirius and try to emulate Sirius?
Fandom is so awesome about ignoring crap we don't like. I never thought I'd see the day that HP fandomw as more mature than another fandom.
And hee - well, either way - problem solved *winks*
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 07:48 pm (UTC)Yeah, we did. Still pisses me off :D Sirius in no way deserves the loyalty he inspires, IMHO. He's not one of my faves, though I can read him easily enough in fandom.
Well, those of us in the fandom have to outgrow the wank, don't we? Or at least outgrow the need to defend to our dying breaths the ships we sail.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 07:51 pm (UTC)I do love Sirius but I also see why people wouldn't.
There are those that never outgrow the need. Hell, some of these wanky people are in their late 40s/early 50s. I just do not get the lack of maturity and a "live and let live" thing.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 07:53 pm (UTC)Same with my faves. I don't expect folks to love Snape or Draco as much as I do, so it's fair.
Its the need to be right, more than anything. And its something they can fight for online, because the ramifications are different that they would be in RL if they stood up and yelled STFU to someone.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 07:59 pm (UTC)I do love Snape and Draco but, err, Snape or Ron with a working willie? um, no.
Yeah - I think the most, err, exuberant people are those that are Very Very passive IRL. This is their way of grabbing control somewhere in their lives.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 08:03 pm (UTC)Not with each other, god no. I do like Ron/Draco. Something about all their aggression towards each other that really catches my eye. And it saves Draco from being a bottom with Harry, who's also totally a bottom :D
Exactly. Hence my lack of wank. I don't need to gain comtrol elsewhere. Least not from people I only know in an abstract sense.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 10:42 pm (UTC)Oh yeah, no. It's just that they NEVER have working bits unless Snape is getting schtupped by a Very Very Angry Regulus in hate!sex or Ron is having "i'm insane and fucking my sister whether she likes it or not" sex.
LOL on the bottoming habits. I like to think that they switch off :D.
Exactly! I really have more than enough control in my life that I don't need to be all passive aggressive whiny about shit.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 10:45 pm (UTC)Heh, yes, I believe that to be the case. Though the occasional Snupin doesn't turn my stomach like it does some *ducks* And poor Ron! Clearly he's on your shit list. I just don't like him with Hermione is all.
Well, I'm sure they do, but it depends on who out-emos or out-pouts the other, lol.
no subject
Date: 2008-07-02 10:47 pm (UTC)and LOL. well, the Coalition of the Wanky are sure to infect the world, then, with that sort of competition.

Date: 2008-07-02 07:22 pm (UTC)you didn;t mention that the exits will be closed for three years!
