Today's Ollian video made my heart sigh. here and oh so lovely. God I love these boys. Seriously just so lovely to see the interactions between them. Also - sweaty Christian? *licks* Pampering Ollie? *sighs*

Human Rights Campaign is having a matching donation thingy going on right now. So your donation would basically double. How frikken awesome is that? With these donations, I really see Human Rights Campaign putting up a really fantastic fight in the fall against those right winger assholes for the constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

This Indiana Jones Thingy makes me laugh.

My Penguins lost :(. Fleury really needs to step it up with the consistency. Throughout this series, he let in a lot of soft goals that a more experienced goalie would've/should've stopped. I really think the Pens are jackasses if they let Ryan Malone go and not just because he has the most lickable tattoos ever but because he really stepped up the play throughout this season and is a hometown boy. I'd love to see a new coach too. I've never been a big fan of Therrien. I think he made some really fucking stupid changes to the lines (Malkin's change of position, for one).

Spent the evening cleaning and getting things ready for the community-wide yard sale this weekend. God, if I can just get rid of like HALF the stuff, I'll have made some money back plus helped to empty out the garage. I'm getting rid of comic books and cross stitch patterns and furniture and books and clothes and... and so much stuff. It'll be nice not to have to worry about storing this crap anymore. I hear that I have over 10 boxes of Star Wars things over in our storage unit, though. IDK about getting rid of those things :/. I like my action figures, mkthx.

Was having a random discussion with [livejournal.com profile] elanorofcastile earlier today and now I'm all sorts of curious... who is your favourite historic figure? Like, actual person. Go on, tell me and give me the reason why.

Mine? Joan of Arc. Ultimate feminist, total badass, devoted, amazing, loyal, wonderful, brilliant leader, super tactician, strong, forgiving, patient, smart. My confirmation name was Jean d'Arc. My name when I was studying to be a nun? Joan. So, um, yeah, kindasorta really liking Joan of Arc.

Second favourite? Ghengis Khan. total baddass, amazing, smart, super tactician, brilliant leader, cunning, strong, no bs.

Hi there! *waves* I recently friended you to keep up with "Memories" - anyway, I wanted to let you know, I just clicked on the HRC link in your post, and the page loaded with what looks like your contact information in the entry fields. Very strange! :\ Not sure if it's just a browser thing, but I thought I'd let you know in case you want to change the link somehow....

That being said, thanks for posting about the matching! I've been thinking of donating, and this is a great reason to do so sooner rather than later. :)

ACK! Thanks for letting me know that. I c/p'ed the wrong link. Me on 4 hours of sleep? made of fail :/.

:D It definitely is an AWESOME reason to donate. Dude. I can't afford a huge donation but suddenly doubling my regular donation is a fantabulous thing.

Ghandi. That man understood human nature to a degree that's absolutely amazing. Nothing he did, no matter how remote and/or religious, lacked a clear and very practical purpose.

Second? Eleanor of Acquitaine. She lived an absolutely amazing life - she went after everything she wanted.

There was more to that comment, I swear!

I love the Indy link - and I really, really wish I could donate right now. :( There will be time.

If it's not personal, how long did you study to be a nun? I'm really curious what that would be like.

HEE! It's all good.

That Indy link makes me laugh so hard. The first time I read it, I sporfled. Donations are always appreciated, I'm sure, regardless of the timing. They do such good work :D.

I studied to be a nun for a year. When I went to enter the actual convent, I couldn't do it. I wrote about a partially fictionalized account here (http://wook77.livejournal.com/57269.html). It really was the shoes that kept me from going forward. I went to this commitment ceremony. Each of us was instructed to bring the one thing that truly symbolized our individuality. So I brought this pair of leopard print mules. At the ceremony, we were told to toss these items into this "symbolic purifying fire". I couldn't do it. I watched these other women toss in baby blankets and family photos and priceless irreplaceable things and I couldn't toss in my leopard print mules. I cried for weeks afterwards and felt like the biggest failure of all. Out of the approximately 30 of us, there were like 15ish of us that couldn't do it. I still talk to 7 of the girls that couldn't and three of the girls that did go on to become nuns.

That's an amazing piece.

That's a very wise ritual - I hope you don't still feel badly about it. Your individuality is too beautiful to be thrown away like that.

Thanks muchly!

The fire was basically a giant bonfire and, well, it was sort of scary at the same time :D.

I don't really. I made the right decision. I would've chafed at all the rules and strictures and such. I like who I am now and I'm obviously not who I would've been had I taken that path. So, :D It's all about life and choosing a path and stuffs.

OOOHHH! Nice ones both! I applaud your choices! I think, definitely, Ghandi is in my top 5. Mother Teresa is another one. They're both so amazingly devoted and thoughtful. Ghandi was always about 50 steps ahead of where the "rest" of us were. I really admire him.

Eleanor of Aquitaine is brilliant too. :D I love that reason, too. Strong women=made of win.

I didn't know you had studied to be a nun. I read the post you linked up there and the story is really interesting.

:D Thankee kindly! I'm glad you liked that piece.

I did study and it was a great time of growing awareness of the world and my place in it. It was with the Dominicans so I spent a lot of time in class and studying and doing good works. I got to travel a bit, as well. In the end, not the path for me, but it was a good walk along it for awhile.

And the Indy link just made my day.

You know, it's entirely your fault I'm up late at night, finally watching the Christian/Olli story evolve in due order and with proper subtitles. If I lose precious sleeping time because I can't stop watching them, it's really your fault!!! :D :D But damn they are gorgeous!

A nun? Wow, incredible. Thank goodness for the leopard print mules without which there wouldn't be such brilliant things as the HDWC and me knowing of Ollian. ;)

DUDE! OMG. Ollian. *sighs* Did you see the 6-6-08 clip? omgomgomgomgomg IT IS BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes :D I enjoyed the time spent there though it wasn't my final destination. I wonder, sometimes, who I would've been but I like who I am so those moments aren't all that frequent. I still have the shoes, too :D

Hey you, how's things?

I'm definitely going to donate to the HRC - how cool an idea.

As for my historical figure - I was going to say Boba Fett cause y'know it happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... but i'm going to say either Alexander the Great or Galileo Galilei.

Also I am trying to find some time to sit down and read MaaTC and your other recent deamus fics (by recent I mean anything I haven't read - which for the last few months has been nothing).

*skulks away again*

OMG YOU!

I'VE MISSED YOU! *TACKLEGLOMPSOMG*

I need your new address so I can send you that package

Heee! Boba doesn't count. So those two are fairly awesome. Any reasoning?

And eeee!!!! I'd love to hear what you think about them as you go through them :D. You always seem to have such insightful comments and stuffs.

*grabs you and refuses to let you skulk away*

I love McSweeney's! and I am glad you chose to remain with us sinners in the outer world!!

I spent a lot of time trying to think of historical figures. There are so many - Bodaceia, Therese de Liseux, QE I, Marie Curie, Ada Lovelady... See my dilemma?

Date: 2008-06-07 07:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com
:D I'm glad I chose this path, too. I look back at everything I've experienced and I very rarely think maybe I should've gone the other way.

Ooooohhhh, well, yes, I see your dilemma. I think it helped me that I seized on two figures from a very young age and that was that for me. Can't pick a fave movie or fave artist or fave type of music but give me historical figures and :D.

Its really hard to choose one, but I'll go with Mary queen of scots. I played her once(in a scene from a play that was historically innacurate), so I have a soft spot for her, even though i know she really screwed up a lot(a lot!), she went with her heart.

Of course i have also read every biography about C.S. Lewis that is in the library, but i'm not sure he counts.

Date: 2008-06-07 07:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com
:D She did definitely go with her heart. I think that she really believed in what she was doing and, in the end, I think she was betrayed by those that she cared about.

CS Lewis counts :D. Otherwise, you couldn't count other authors and I don't think that's fair. Besides - he's dead, that makes him a definite part of history *winks*

Date: 2008-06-07 10:38 pm (UTC)

He is indeed dead even if no one noticed.

The indy thing is tres amusing. *g*

You and your Ollie. *snerks*

As for favourite historical figure? Hands down: Beethoven. Come on... temperamental musician! Plus his favourite food was Mac 'n Cheese. *g* (and no, I'm not making this up. There's written somewhere that he liked pasta with a cheese on it. I'm not sure which book, but it was a running joke in our history department.)

It's part of a German soap opera called "Verbotene Liebe". You should spend your days watching all of the videos in the playlist (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=CE1738656BCC0E20) so that you can squee with me. *nods emphatically*
