Most nights? I get about 4-5 hours of sleep because of the two jobs thing.

Last night? 2. Two hours of sleep and why? Because of a german fucking soap fucking opera. Verbotene Liebe is crack, I've decided. They laced it with crack to get me addicted.

HERE is the playlist for the videos I've been watching non-stop since Sunday morning. I didn't go to Ikea and get my bookshelves. I didn't write. I didn't play the xbox. I didn't do anything but watch these damn videos (and run laundry when I got bitched at).

As an example so as to share the crack - here's IMHO the best one so far -

(pre-story: Christian keeps protesting that he's straight but he's already had some snogs and a one-night stand with his roommate Ollie. So Ollie and his BFF somehow meet up with Christian and some girl when they accidentally go dancing at the same club. Christian hipchecks the dude that was dancing with Ollie. Picspam that explains the full backstory in a funnier manner - And... cue video with subtitles)

What song is that that's playing during the Moment between Ollie and Christian? It's driving me nuts to try to think of it.

The sheer unadulterated romance of that moment gets me. It's like serious crack. The way that Christian finally says that he loves Ollie when he's treated Ollie like crap - blowing hot and cold and hot and cold (see picspam. When Ollie touches Christian's shoulder - i think that is one of the most innocently erotic moments ever. Just the way that Ollie's hand is shaking as he does it before he leans in and breathes in Christian.

When I write - it's a moment like this that I'm striving for 99% of the time - a fairly innocent touch that means so much more. Because these two? They've kissed before. Quite a few times. But this kiss, this touch is so very important because of the confessions that went right before them. And because it's a soap opera, you and I both know that that brief shining moment of happiness won't last because it can't due to the constraints of the format and the universe that they exist in but until then, there's this overwhelming moment of happiness in that touch.

Rant: So they can have this sort of long drawn-out storyline on a German tv channel but for some fucking reason - America has to fuck it up. Not the storyline (as that's made of win) but the whole thing with having two men kissing on national tv. We're so fixated on being these Puritanical assholes that we just keep trying to go back to the stoning era where anyone different, anyone not of our religion or our sexuality or our whatever gets stoned for their heresy.

Proctor and Gamble finally JUST had Luke and Noah kiss and now they're thinking of discontinuing the storyline. Seems they're getting shit from the religious right. I don't even watch the damn show except for the Luke and Noah parts on youtube and I'm so tired of the way that this country kowtows to the fucking religious right. Hell, I'm Catholic and I'm fairly out and proud about it but that doesn't mean that I don't believe that there are other people out there that enjoy things that I don't or that my way is the only way.

So let's keep the grassroots movement that got these two to finally kiss on national television going and tell As the World Turns and P&G that there are those that appreciate the storyline by calling in to their phoneline (even if you don't watch it).

btw, this soap is on tv at like 5pm as part of late afternoon programming. if this was on at night, you'd probably get the sex, too, instead of the fade-to-black.

I signed up for a German class at the local community college. Maybe its because I don't understand the original language but I don't see the bad acting. I do, however, get fixated on the snogging :D.

it's just...the delivery of the lines is kinda wooden. *hides* and the way they talk sounds rather scripted. like, you can tell they studied dialogue rather than having a natural conversation.

I think the wooden delivery is hidden in the language, for me. To me? It sounds fairly natural but I think it's because I don't know when there are pauses that feel practiced instead of natural. Like in English? I can always tell but with other languages, even French? I'm lost with that. So, I shall continue to sit here with my squee and huggle it close.

And I shall be hitting you up with the German. Expect horrible emails written in beginner's german. My class starts in June :D ALso - expect rather rubbish german at Terminus (OMG TERMINUS!)

I'm German speaking and it doesn't bother me. Then again, I'm pretty indifferent to bad acting ;D I grew up watching "Ridge" and "Brooke" and "Thorne" on the Bold and The Beautiful and as a result nothing can phaze me :D

That said, there is this other German gay soap couple (http://community.livejournal.com/seifen_slash/6128.html?style=mine) on a different soap which many people tell me is a lot more natural in their acting and their language.

I've actually mused on the subject that maybe in this case maybe this certain stiltedness/simplicity of Verbotene Liebe actually works in its favor. That maybe it relies more on a lot of very basic body language and dialog, making it easier for non German speakers to follow. The dialog on the other show (AWZ) is often a lot more snappy, referencing obscure German pop culture things and often just plain longer. (or it could just be because the storyline on that other show sucks a bit at the moment)

I think the body language is what really makes it, for me. It's the small gestures that bring it out. The dialogue? meh. The way that Ollie rests his hand on Christian's shoulder or rubs his ear while they're talking or the way that they cup each other's cheeks or look at one another or what have you - I'm in love with that aspect of it.

Though - as an American - I do find the constant references to overly masculine men as "machos" to be sort of amusing.

You know, inspired by this thread I tried to take some of the episodes and let them run in the background without watching/just sound and it's true, they sound a bit strange (actually Gregor is one of the most natural sounding ones, regardless of dialog; maybe that's where all the Gregor love comes from :D).

But the moment I pop up the window again, I'm so back to being in love. It's like "OMG, they can be cute and walk and talk and snog at the same time! Eeeeeeeeeee! It's a miracle!" that you can't pay attention to the pesky details :D
