After DH - I've noticed a change in my reading habits. I'm reading quite a bit more het and gen than I ever did. More than that, I'm writing more het and gen than I did before. I've even experimented with making some of my favorite slash pairings into het pairings and vice versa.

What I'm curious about is if you all have done the same? Are you reading more het? Are you reading about new characters? Are you shipping new ships? Have you changed your preferences around?

And what better way to ask this than a poll?

Finally - Don't forget the Bring 'Em Back Fest. Claim a character to bring back from the dead and let's all have a bit more time with them!

My reading habits have changed to include more gen and het, but probably only temporarily. There have been a ton of gen fics coming out post-DH because I think a lot of writers (and readers) just want to fill in some plot gaps or settle their feelings about a certain character, both of which lend themselves to gen fics, I think. And because obviously JKR's canon pairings are all het, I think we're getting a lot of het fics dealing with those since they're sort of top of mind. And I'm reading them (when I normally read very little het) again to sort of make sense of my feelings about them in the book.

However, it's been less than a week since I finished the book -- I think after a bit more time has passed, and I've read enough gen and het to settle some of the questions/issues I have with canon, I'll go happily back to my slashy ways. ;-)

I have noticed a change for the moment, but that's mainly because I'm reading whatever DH-based stuff I can find, and so far that seems to be mainly short gen fics (at least the stuff that doesn't look like complete crap just from the headers - I'd like to read Albus/Scorpius, but so far I haven't found anything even clickable).

I don't know whether in the long run I will keep up with so much gen. I am more interested in het pairings than I was before, mainly Remus/Tonks (though I've been interested in them since HBP, just haven't read much because like Sirius/Remus, the fandom seems to be mainly crap) and Snape/Lily. I'm also quite interested in DH-compliant (and epilogue-compliant) H/D, though, as well as slash with the next gen.

Someone tell me where this Dean/Luna obsession has come from, lol. I thought I was a darkfic writer. ;)

I've been reading a lot of gen about the DA members who stayed at Hogwarts, as well. It's something that's tantalizingly hinted at in the books and not really gone into, and I love seeing fics about their heroics during that time.

where is the dean/luna???? must have it!

I wouldnt' say I'm any more or less than before. For instance, I still ship H/G, but I find very little H/G that I want to read. I prefer to keep them locked away inside me where I feel everything is in a good place. KWIM?

Unfortunately, I haven't had any time in the past week to read fic. :( But I do like gen and I think there are lots and lots of great genfic possibilities post-DH. Het, too, I suppose - although I doubt I'll be writing or reading any H/G that doesn't involve breaking them up at some point and/or forcing Draco between them. :)

reading habits: I was sort of halfway out of the fandom (there was no danger of me ever completely leaving it, just concentrated elsewhere) before DH and then I started planning/writing other pairings - mostly just humour fics, not serious ones. DH managed to restore my interest in reading HP fics again. As for new pairings: I find myself interested in gen fics that feature their children with a prospect of them turning into AS/S. But I don't care about AS/S fics that start with them already being grown up and such because JKR neglected to flesh out these characters so I need to know their personalities before that, and what's better than fics that start with them starting Hogwarts? I hope there will be many. But my OTP still remains H/D and I don't care whether the epilogue exists or not - both provide interesting starting points.
Het... I did write something that started with het (Harry/Ginny) - but ended up H/D. If that counts. (But that was before DH and people didn't like it exactly for that reason.) I still don't read purely het fics. Just... no. :S
