wook77A few posts ago, I joked about the website God Hates Shrimp. It is a work of parody of the extreme right wing of the US.

emmagrant01's lj about a law being proposed in Indiana. I followed the link to elke_tanzer's journal and found out that this is NOT a work of parody. This is not a joke.
Instead, this is the Taliban infiltrating the US. This is the subversion of freedom and democracy. This is scary.
This insanity has quite a few pieces I'd love to dissect, but instead, I'll just make one point. It's tough limiting myself to just it but here goes anyway.
The proposed law states (to quote the above article) Some of the required information includes the fertility history of the parents, education and employment information, hobbies, personality descriptions, verification of marital status, child care plans, letter of reference and criminal history checks.
A description of the family lifestyle of the intended parents is also required, including individual participation in faith-based or church activities.
Since when does being religious mean that you are a proper parental figure for children? Let's look at some extreme right wing religious people.
The first is Andrea Yates. She was extremely Christian and she drowned her children because God Told Her To Do It..
How about Susan Smith? This religious woman was molested as a child by her God-fearing father (a minor Republican represetative) and then drowned her two children. She did because she was a whackjob but the religious part still stands.
Another case of religion making great parents - Deanna Laney. She stoned her children to death because God Told Her To Do It.
Just to show that it's not just religious mothers... let's have a father. Michael Gentry spoke of having the right to kill his children and then he did just that.
According to this article, religiosity is a common factor among mothers who kill their children.
For "shits and giggles", just google parents kill children god... I got 14 million hits. Quite a few weren't applicable but the fact that those four terms brought back so many hits scare the crap out of me and prove that there is a reason why we have a Constitutional Right to the Seperation of Church and State.
It's time's like these that I'm really glad that the ACLU exists. I've been wavering on whether or not to join because of different stances that I'm not too sure I agree with. However, their vow to fight this just finished swaying me over. Thank God (and yes, I'm Christian) I live in Arizona. Hopefully the insanity stays contained in a small area and we can go in and treat these delusional people with medication before the law passes.
