Yeah, basically, the creator of Glee got all butt hurt and then Followill thought it would be a lark to insult him using female-centric insults. There were plenty of other insults he could've used that didn't require misogynistic statements. "Talentless hack living pipedreams through others that actually have talent" wouldn't have been insulting to women or gays.
I don't watch Glee but I also won't be buying Kings of Leon, either. There's no need to insult a large part of your audience by deriding them.
And what I especially don't need to see is a bunch of men telling women to get a sense of humor about the insults and that he didn't mean anything bad by it. Besides, why is it insulting to women that men don't want to throw like girls? They shouldn't want to throw like girls! Nevermind the implication that throwing like a girl, crying like a girl is always a bad awful evil thing that no one should ever want to be.
