Random Drabble
Sep. 13th, 2005 03:06 pmTotally misread
jamie2109 's prompt for this week's AWDT. So, I had this random drabble come out. I kinda like it, as I most identify with Tonks in the HP universe. Thoughts and feelings on it will be greatly appreciated.
Title: Dreams
Pairing: implied Tonks/You Pick
Rating: G
Summary: When she was a little girl, she used to dream all the time.
Warnings: Het? Do I need to warn for that?
Words: 341
When she was a little girl, she used to dream all the time. She’d dream that she was a princess, high in a tower, waiting for the errant knight to come and save her. She’d dream that she WAS the errant knight, come to save some poor boy stuck in a tower. She’d dream that she was beautiful and had long silky brown hair that hung to the small of her back in a glistening cascade that made everyone fall in love with her.
By and far, though, her favorite dream was being normal. As a little girl, she didn’t like the fact that other people laughed at her when she changed her features. Her mother would pet her on the head and tell her that it was a special gift that she would learn to love when she was older.
Now, she was no longer a little girl. Her little girl dreams had gone by the wayside. She was no damsel in distress, pining away in a tower. She didn’t have time to find some stupid boy that was dumb enough to get himself stuck in a tower and if he couldn’t save himself, then she didn’t want him anyway. With her special gift, she could have long silky brown hair but that only appeared when she was depressed. She would never be normal. Her gift helped her immensely in her job. She liked to think that her gift for changing her features had saved countless lives, Wizard and Muggle.
Instead, as a young woman, her dreams were different. She wanted an equal to care about her, just her. She dreamed about one of her fellow Order Members. He was, according to himself and many others, much too old for her. She didn’t see that, however. She saw that he was a wonderful man, quiet to her loud, reserved to her brash, pastel to her primary. They were opposites that attracted.
By and far, though, her favorite dream was that, in the end, he completed her and she completed him.

Date: 2005-09-14 02:57 am (UTC)Thank you kindly. I guess I worked out some of my frustration with dating. I just want a complete relationship... not me doing everything and the other doing nothing. That came out here.

Date: 2005-09-19 02:53 am (UTC)IMO, she would be the kind of character who would see someone's reticence as a challenge, so R's attempts to step away would be a red rag to a bull. ;)

Date: 2005-09-19 03:52 am (UTC)She's a very interesting character that I hope JKR expands on some more in the next book.
I'm glad you liked the vignette. I may have more of her popping up in the future, depending on what I'm thinking and/or feeling.

Date: 2005-09-19 03:55 am (UTC)I do think they seem to fit. The first time I read HBP, I thought, huh?! After a second reading, I realized that they do seem to fit. Tonks seems to need someone with a strong personality but that's more mature than she is. I'm not saying she's immature. It's like the story of the ant and the grasshopper. She's very much a grasshopper and she needs an ant. She seems to live in the moment and fiddle the day away while Remus seems to plan ahead and make sure everything is going to work.
I love Tonks.

I loved the contrast between the little girl dreams and the young woman dreams.
The last line especially took my breath away
