Linkspam and a meme

I've been collecting links to share for like 3 weeks now so here goes:

The List of Fail:

Dear Orlando -

You win! You're the fail of the post! FAIL that words cannot describe. In what world does it make sense to criminalize people feeding other people. Oh wait, but if we criminalize feeding the homeless, they'll go away. Yeah, cause it worked so well in the 80s. In conclusion, triple fail.

No love, me

Army Colonel Cheats on Wife, Fakes Paternity Test Oh fuck off, you twunt. Suck it up, accept responsibility and move the fuck on. Also - if you were any sort of smart, you wouldn't be in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. (Disclaimer: I was born there. I'm smart, I left.)

Truth behind puppies at pet stores (Video by the Humane Society of the United States). Then again, who really needs to see the parents of the animal anyway? Also - I've had this discussion before, please note the large amount of Amish people at these things (and using microphones!). The Amish are some of the worst offenders when it comes to puppy mills. Oh but that puppy's so cute, I must have it! MY puppy doesn't come from a puppy mill, it's all the other pet stores that do it.

Way to go, RIAA - With PR like this, who needs album advertising?

Senior citizens who happen to be gay get shunted off with the insane because they're offensive - huh. Assholes. Plenty of stories in the NYT article which I cannot direct link to.

What sort of world do we live in that A bullet-proof hoodie is needed?

And people wonder why I don't like riding in hot air balloons or ferris wheels. Because you can fall out and die.

Larger List of Win:

7 year old climbs into a toy machine. HEEEEE

Instructions on how to create your own ringtones for your cellphones SCORE!

Campaign to have Peter Jackson direct Deathly Hallows He has to be able to do a better job.

This weekend is International Clean Up Weekend!

Mr Potato Head is a drug smuggler. Yes, kids, it's true. I hope he goes to rehab. It's worked well for Britney and Lindsey, after all.

DUUUUDDDDEEEEE, a 21 Foot Long X-Wing Model that FLIES. Win all around. In fact, Win of the Post.

The Killers cover Joy Division. At first, I was all, no frikken way. I adore Joy Division and I love the Killers but both? But it's serious win. First runner-up of Win.

Me Wants

Small List of Other:

I have a large list of recommendations but best fic I've read in weeks - Combat Rock which is Remus/Sirius and just brilliantly painful and poignant and so amazingly visceral. I am in love with this story. Go read.

I'm watching two tv shows right now: Moonlight (which always makes me want to say Moonlighting but then it'd be Bruce Willis and I might have to gouge my eyes out). It's alright, I'm more watching for the pretty.

And, best show ever. It's like Mel Brooks meets friends - Big Bang Theory. It's nerdy and funny and awesome. In the second episode, the one nerd comes out of his bedroom wielding a green lightsaber to protect himself. They play world of warcraft and omg, it's just fucking awesome. I laughed so hard, I had pop coming out my nose and I fell off the couch. Check it out if you're even semi-sort of geeky because it's seriously just AWESOME.

I forget who tagged me but, I finally did it. I tried to vary it from the other 7 Quirks I did awhile back.

1.) I can't sleep in anything with sleeves. Or pants - I can't sleep in bottoms either. Or if I have my bra on but I can sleep with a jog bra on as long as I don't have a shirt on over it. Yeah, ok, I sleep weird.

2.) I touch my face a lot. Like every two minutes or more often. My allergies have my nose itchy most of the time so when I'm not scratching it, I'm pushing my hair from in front of my eyes or touching my cheek or rubbing my ear or checking to make sure I have nothing on my face from eating (even though I ate hours before).

3.) I almost have a panic attack if I don't have my cell phone with me. I'm not on it 24/7 but I have to have it right there with me 24/7 or I get worried. I literally sleep with it next to my face. It has to be within reach.

4.) Speaking of the cellphone and sleeping - I play 15 minutes of Sudoku before I can fall asleep. That's about 4.5 games. Somehow, this calms my brain enough to get me to have enough time to sleep. Otherwise, I suffer from insomnia. I also cannot fall asleep without being on my stomach at some point.

5.) I hate socks. Like literal hate. Socks make my feet feel trapped and I get claustrophobic. When I lived somewhere that had snow, I still wore open toed shoes everywhere. Or, even more entertaining for those around me, I'd wear flipflops.

6.) I might've used this one before but – I'm terrified of mass transit systems other than subways. Like, buses? I freeze up if I have to navigate using them. Buses scare me liekwhoa. Subway/railway systems not so much with the fear because they make sense to me but buses make no sense. I don't like cabs, either. You're stuck relying on someone else and you have no idea if they even know where they're going or if they're just driving around jacking up the bill.

7.) I hate being touched. If I willingly touch you, it's a sign that I trust you a great deal. I do not like to be touched casually by strangers, people I don't like or even people I like but do not trust. I have a coworker that is constantly touching me and it makes me queasy to my stomach and my temper immediately flares. I absolutely loath being touched by random people.

In the past week and a half, I have finished 4 stories and have another 3 to go before I go on vacation (ZOMG TWO WEEKS). smutty_claus, daily_deviant and two lines are all due the beginning of November and I'd rather get them out of the way before vacation and nanowrimo. BTW - if you want to keep up with my nanowrimo writing, you will have to friend [livejournal.com profile] tryntje as nothing will be posted publicly.

Right. Back to writing. Anyone wanna distract me? I don't think [livejournal.com profile] yodels is around with her giant stick of deadlines to smack me.

The Killers played Shadowplay when I saw them live. I had no idea they were actually going to record it. I actually didn't like the song much. :-/

[identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I love Joy Division, worship them, even. I think they do a great job on it, tbh. Have you heard the original?

Also - didn't get a chance to say this before but - thank you so much for posting about Yuletide as I had forgotten about it and when you posted that it was open, I immediately friended the comms and nominated/signed up. So, thanks!!!
ext_150: (Default)

[identity profile] kyuuketsukirui.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I liked the original even less! I just do not have much joy for Joy Division, apparently. (Though I think I have Love Will Tear Us Apart on my harddrive, but it's not a favorite.)

And yay for Yuletide! I'm actually planning to do a pimping post because I've had two people ask about it who've never been involved before.

[identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
So I take it you're not a fan of Bauhaus either? To me, they have a similar vibe. Maybe it's a leftover from my goth years or something?

Man, Yuletide!!!!! I'm so squeeful. I volunteered to write in about 10 different fandoms but boy was it tough to pick my requests. You should totally do a pimp post and do you mind if I link to it? The FAQ is a little disconcertingly big for the most part.

[identity profile] kyuuketsukirui.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I actually don't think I've heard anything by Bauhaus. And for all I know I might like Joy Division more if I heard something other than those two songs. I don't really know a lot of that genre at all. (If you want to pimp some songs, feel free!)

And yes, absolutely link away once I get my pimping post up. I just had another friend say she wanted to sign up so now I'm all excited about getting new people in. :D

I'm putting together a musicspam for you :D I've a few really good Joy Division and Bauhaus.

I'll also be linking to the pimping post over at a couple of rare fandom comms I run! Thanks!

A post made of so much win I don't know where to start.

*nods* - that's one big X-Wing, I wonder if they'd consider making me Slave 1?

and when I go to sleep i have to listen to spoken word albums - it can be audio books or comedy or whatever - it just has to be spoken word...

congrats on the story finising - it feels good getting things out of the way - I panicked about my slashnotsmut for ages even after I had started it because I just didn't know, y'know?

if you want distractin there are 4 drabbles over on my LJ...

[identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, well, there's plenty of win and fail to go around.

IDK about the Slave I but the article says about how the x-wing was considered the most aerodynamic or something of the bunch. So, maybe eventually? How would they do the twisting rockets, though? hmmm

oh yeah? I have to have like a fan going but if there's words or songs or something, I can't sleep. Unless I'm somewhere strange. Then I need a certain set of songs to be able to sleep. Yeah, I'm weird.

OMG, tell me about it on the SNS. Dude, seriously, just OMG. I'm sure you'll recognise my story but I wibbled and had about 5 rough drafts (seriously, the documents were titled, "pairing take 1" and "pairing take 2" and "sns is going to kill me take 3" and "finally something I might be willing to post take 4" sort of thing. Thank God for my betas because it would seriously suck otherwise. They kept poking and encouraging.

oooh, I read the dean/luna and I have it open in another window, actually. I write 200 words and then read another :D. See, I reward myself with you.

[identity profile] chaeldub.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes there was plenty of fail... I mean for cryin out loud there's a law against feeding homeless people?

Humanity - The Tribe has spoken...

I think Slave 1 would fly in the same way that a brick floats. Twisting rockets - little remote controlled toilet roll tubes with proppellors on the end? I guess the X-wing has 4wings so more lift.

SNS *sporfles at your WIP titles* So i'm not the only one who title each one differently! It's nice you have lovely beta to pet you and prod you in the appropriate places.

See, I reward myself with you. *grin* aww, thanks. Now, get ye to thy writings.

[identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dude, I don't have just one beta. I normally use two or three. The fics are just that needy, lately. There's one fic that I had like 8 betas on it. Actually, I think it was my smutmas last year. My smutty_claus will probably have about the same number.

YES! Who really thought that would be a good idea? And they lock up the tables unless you pay to rent them! Except, you paid for the tables and the installation already through your tax dollars, for fuck's sake. I hope like fuck this law is overturned because seriously, this is the most asinine thing I've heard in a long time. Tucson has a HUGE homeless population but instead of outlawing compassion, we feed them and open shelters and give money to groups that have soup kitchens. University of Arizona does a lot to help, as well, with feeding and sponsoring programs and stuff. I know that in the 80s, Tucson tried to outlaw various aspects of helping the homeless and it didn't work. At all. Instead, they decided compassion and a helping hand was more in keeping with what they should do. Now we still have a homeless population and we still don't have enough beds or food but at least we're not locking up our common areas and demanding that people rent their own stuff back. /rant on homelessness and idiocy

One of my dogs is a puppy mill rescuee. The conditions she was in were pretty hideous.

[identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's just unbelievable, seriously. I just boggle at it. There was a puppy mill that was right off the PA turnpike and it was horrific to drive past. You'd see crate upon crate upon crate of animals. The crates were wiremesh, so these dogs didn't even get a solid floor. Can you just imagine their feet or what happens to the poor dog on the bottom with the waste? Thank the maker they finally shut that place down.

But YAYES for rescue puppies!!!!

[identity profile] ladylisse.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
My folks were heavily involved with a lot of dog stuff, so I heard a lot of horror stories about puppy mills.

Our rescue dog had to fight with her littermates to get food, so she had crazy guarding issues when we first got her. Otherwise she's a complete sweetie.

[identity profile] shygryf.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
The Tucson bus system is enough to scare anyone. haven't been on a sun tran in 5 years and am not sorry one iota.

[identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've ridden the suntran 2x. Both times, the driver hit a bicyclist. Never ever ever again. Never. Buses scare me.

I, too, feel no guilt for driving because of that. then again, I'm so far out of town right now that suntran doesn't run out here.

[identity profile] kerryblaze.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Feeding the homeless is a crime?!?! OMG! That is fucking horrifying!!!

I can't watch the puppy mill video. I get too upset. :( I really wish people would just stop. Just stop. But... then I do feel bad for the puppies in the pet stores. It's not there fault and I want them to go to good homes. It's a vicious circle. Puppy mills just need to be outlawed.

[identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and omg, I'm glad you pimped that on your flist too because it makes my mind hurt.

The puppy mill thing pisses me off so much. And the stuff they show isn't even the most horrific of the bunch. There was a lot of footage that was deemed too much for public consumption. Thankfully, HSUS is going to try for legal cases about that.

Puppy mills really do to go the fuck away but they won't because most of the legislation would also outlaw factory farms, as well. Arizona just passed legislation for humane treatment of animals at factory farms and it's slowly growing to incorporate any "animal for profit" venture. I can only hope that that law goes nationwide.

I feel for the puppies in the pet store but as long as people are feeling bad for the puppies and buying them, then there will be other puppies to take their place so too right on the vicious cycle there. I just do what the website says, boycott the pet stores that sell puppies completely. It's one of the few cases where I will shop at a giant national chain (petsmart) and avoid the local businesses.

[identity profile] football-girl.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The puppies thing make me very very sad. I've heard about it before and find it positively atrocious. That's why I adopted mine from the Humane Society - it's the only way I feel right about doing it (other than taking a puppy from a friend whose dog just had some).

Ah, I know what you mean about being touched, too. It's weird with me. I hate people getting into my personal space unless I have made it positively clear it's ok. On the other hand, I communicate through touch a lot, so I am very aware of myself so that I don't touch strangers or even friends who have not explicitly shown it's ok with them. But yeah. I have a friend(ish) who jumps around my neck every time she sees me, and I'm definitely not down with that. :S

[identity profile] wook77.livejournal.com 2007-10-12 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's horrible and only gets more horrific, really.

I don't mind people getting animals from reputable breeders, I really don't. Of course, I'd rather they go to a humane society because it helps an unwanted pet and all that. But if the purebred animal is the way "they" want to go, then a reputable breeder is awesome. They, normally, have the best interests of the breed at heart. And by reputable, I don't mean the people who sit there with the backs of their pickups open on the roadside selling puppies.

YES!!!! on the touching thing. GOD, it bothers me so much. Get out of my space, I did NOT give you an invitation to touch me! and ugh, on that friend(ish) person. I'd probably kill her.
