I'm kindasorta proud of living in Arizona right now.

Out of all the "Same Sex Marriage Ban" propositions out there, Arizona (seems) to be the only state that rejected it. Arizona: 1, Homophobes: 0

Then again, Arizona also re-elected John Kyl (we call him Heil Kyl at work. Mysoginistic homophobic asshole about on par with Santorum, IMHO). Arizona: 0, Republicans: 1

We elected Gabby Giffords (a Dem) to take over for Kolbe (openly gay Republican that retired) Arizona: 1, Republicans: 1

We re-elected Napolitano for Governor: Arizona: 2, Republicans: 1

We also get stuck with all kinds of legislation that deny loads of things to illegal immigrants (such as bail in basically any sort of accusation of crime, punitive damages in injury cases and some others) Arizona: 0, Xenophobes: 1

English is going to be the official language of Arizona: Arizona: 0, Xenophobes: 2

We passed a Humane Farms Proposition: Arizona: 1, Abusive Factory Farms: 0

It's a slim margin but it's a good day to be from Arizona.

go arizona! i'm especially glad about the rejection of the ban of gay marriage.

now, the english as official language decision, i assume that has to do with providing spanish-language education to potentially illegal immigrants, or no?

Arizona actually does have a law on the books (not an amendment to the state constitution) that bans same sex marriages, though :(. That's the part that sucks but hopefully, it'll get repealed the next set of elections. They're going to try to get petitions to get it repealed in the next election.

oh. but a law is easier to repeal than a constitutional amendment...

oh and on the official language thing... yeah, it will really affect English as a Second Language training for children. There's mention that teachers will no longer teach in both English and Spanish.
