It was hard to hear but my default is to say it with an long a (/eɪ/) "a" agged. I say egg, beg and leg with the same vowel sound that I'd say 'bay' . IDK where that came from! That's New England, I think.

I say them that way too! It's difficult to say it the way it's probably meant to be pronounced.
