I am quite sure that it would be impossible to quantify just how much I love this story. I have read it so many times, this first chapter especially because I would reread the whole thing every time you posted a new chapter over on TQP, before I finally found this over on LJ. And now, every time I read that first sentence I get this happy sigh-like feeling, like taking a big sip of warm coffee, and I feel happy and utterly content.
Even from the beginning here, you've captured Seamus' grief so well. He'd learned, early on, that Dennis didn't need conversation. He needed companionship, predictability, shared grief and proof of sanity, just like Seamus did...Grief was fucking with his mind And it's so well mirrored in Dennis, slightly different in its manifestation of course, but just as sharp and painful. And this: "You're not any more barmy than the rest of us. We lost so much." There was a pause and then, Dennis whispered, so soft Seamus wasn't sure he was supposed to hear, "Sometimes, I think we lost ourselves, too." perfect. sad, heartbreaking, perfect.
This fic will forever hold one of the dearest places in my heart. It not only caused me to fall head over heels in love with Dean and Seamus, both as characters and as a pairing, but it's what turned me into a slasher in the first place. So I have such a soft spot for this story-- it's achingly sad, beautifully hopeful, and wonderfully romantic. And now, very past due, I'm actually reviewing. Onto chapter 2!
